3 quick things (cuz i don't want your opinion to go unchallenged).

Generally, governments carry out our national interest. In some specific cases, people abuse their power - and carry out self serving policies.

long established democratic republic governments are better than the alternatives. The US specifically, has made it's fair share of mistakes throughout history. It's not that I don't critize the gov't. I see things that we are still supporting that I disagree with. It's our duty to point those out...and try to right the wrongs.

HOWEVER - I draw a thick line in the sand when it calls for takin up arms against fellow americans and systematically murdering government agents and their families.

To take up arms against the government, means that no other possible recourse can be taken. While, I'll admit that I don't know enough about McVeigh's case to say that he did or did_not_ do that. It's my guess that he didn't have much of a case against the government...because I don't recall hearing it in the media coverage. Second, he was a young guy, that leads me to believe that he didn't spend much time pursuing the normal channels for voicing discontent.

There is one important little side note to this situation: now I'm not defending the things that McVeigh did in any way shape or form.

But the question has to be asked: since the government cheated in the prosecution of McVeigh, that in a case this high profile, a case that was a slam dunk, they STILL had to cheat by hiding evidence from the defense, can he still be put to death without a fair trial??

What does this mean for the rule of law, isn't the sanctity of the legal sytem that our country is founded upon greater than any one trial?

Shouldn't he be given a new trial? Or does the FBI get to choose who is guilty and who isn't? Because they were right this one time?

Just to set the record straight... and believe me I am the last person to defend the FBI. There were over one billion documents in that case. The documents were from Colorado, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Alaska, Kentucky, and D.C. Out of that one billion documents from seven different offices they managed to loose 200. That's not bad in my book. Besides, he has admitted his guilt. Openly. He does not even want another trial.

He is guilty. Fry the bastard.

I think saying anyone in the FBI was "hiding" documents from the defense is not a defensible point of view based on what we know so far. I say this because apparently the prosecution never knew about the documents, either. And what could be in them that could be exculpatory, anyway, for a guy who's already confessed to the crime?

I seriously doubt the claim that there were 'a billion' documents. That's an absurd number that they are throwing around to minimise their responsibility.

The point isn't that the documents were or are excalpultory, the point is that among them there are eye witness accounts, etc that could have changed the outcome of the trial perhaps not in his guilt, but in his punishment.

The fact is, do we care about the rule of law or not? If we do it's a mistrial and he gets a new one.

If we don't care about the rule of law what the fuck is the point of our legal system?
