I just figured that you're so big you probably always think you can power your way out of the choke until you wake up hehe

No, you are wrong, Judo does not emphasize the pin, it is actually more effective against more than one opponent than BJJ for example. This is a common misunderstanding, but in Judo if you train hard you can get the black belt in two years. The black belt in Judo is not nearly the same as the black belt in BJJ, it takes 6-8 years to get the black belt in BJJ, so that is the equaliant of a 2-3rd degree blackbelt in Judo, and belive me if you are 3rd degree black belt in Judo you do not study pins and throws anymore :thumbsup

In Judo you are actually just considered a beginner untill you get the blackbelt, when you get it it meens you can really start studying Judo

dig420 07-27-2004 01:12 AM

more like 10-15 years for a BJJ black belt unless you're pretty talented.

Judo is cool, there are some Judo guys making noise in NHB now.

kowntafit 07-27-2004 01:14 AM

A few at high school. They weren't my fights though, friends either getting into shit or people just starting shit with them.

phpslave 07-27-2004 08:55 AM

I've gotten in many fights, mostly between the ages of 14 and 21 though (i'm 26 now). Since then i've gradually been calming down and growing up, but there have been some i either just couldn't avoid or couldn't control myself on since then.

iFliPcEss 07-27-2004 08:58 AM

iv always been in a fight hahaha

Yeah, also depends on how often you train...
I did a month with Edson Carvalho's school in Salvador, Brazil, and most the guys there were taking the black belt in about 8 years, but then again they tose guys were training 5-6 days a week 3-5 hours a day. I even got to wrestle the state Vale Tudo champion (same as NHB), he thrashed me pretty easily :D

I have done some BJJ, maybe 8 months in total, and from what I can see it is an extremely effective method 1 on 1, probably more than Judo, but I find that Judo is more effective if you do get in a real life situation, since it gives you more options on your feet.

My plan is now to do some TKD or Muy-Thai then I should be eligable to do some NHB :thumbsup

I have been in tonnes of fights - not that I'm proud of it - but I bounced before this and when things happened - I had to put an end to them quickly. I'm not the type to sit and duke it out - I always preferred to get the guy in a lock and take him out quickly.
Last fight I was in was actually against a couple of bouncers in Waterloo. I went back to the bar 2 months later and the one bouncer was still in the hospital - oh well - he thought he was tough guy.

sixxxth_sense 07-27-2004 09:43 AM

This is a stupid question!

we always seem to get two responses on topics like this.

a. I never fight, it is infantile..etc etc

b. I'm a ninja, who is a lethal killing machine

i love it:1orglaugh

hova 07-27-2004 09:58 AM

I have been in some fights, some bigger then the other. I used to do freefighting and kickboxing, so I had to fight in the ring a lot. And I used to be far more agressive then I am now. The last fight I have been in was about 6 months ago, dunno why it is. I prefer other people fighting my fights

BJJ doctrine say 90 percent of fights end on the ground (Fallacy, but great marketing), the other side of the coin is, 100 percent of fights start standing up.

That's why I do both Judo and Jits.

Violence is not the answer

retrograde 07-27-2004 10:21 AM

Actually, I've never been in a fight before. I don't need to, I hurt myself enough on accident. :(

Doctor Dre 07-27-2004 10:22 AM

Sounds great looking at making a trip home very soon.

Last fight I was in was about 3 years ago. I was 23 then. Some cowards decided to jump one of my friends so I had to do away with that shit. I bet that one fucker still can't eat right. Before that it was about 3-5 years. Can't really remember how long ago but a similar incident with several people attempting to jump another guy I was friends with. Then in high school it used to pretty much be all the time. I've come close a bunch of times but managed to avoid an all out melee mostly through intervention of others.

I have a membership at maxboxing and jump to boxingtalk.com, ringtalk.com and secondsout.com every once in a while to see what's popping. I also like mma.tv, sherdog.com and bullshido.com. I don't like violence but I've always liked violent sports, you just can't match the drama of boxing or NHB with any other sport, especially a team sport.

I like the Mexican featherweights right now - Barrera, Morales, Marquez - add Paqiuao to the mix and I think the featherweights are at a historical high point. As good as it's ever been.

dig420 07-27-2004 11:55 AM

oh yeah, can't forget doghouseboxing.com if you're a boxing freak

Yeah I belong to max and bt, and check out the other sites you mention regularly. I'd also add eastsideboxing.com and fightnews.com to the list. You might be right about the featherweights, it's a very deep division atm, same with the 140lbers.

And Pacman ruxx!

Yes a few times, the last time was years ago and it was me and another "Jar Head" settling on who was in charge.

I was. :thumbsup
