Well, he did move to Canada, but not sure that makes him a Canadian . . . but what are we giving him credit as being the inventor of?

No, he became a Canadian... as in, citizen. Anyway, it's all there in the time line.

He invented many things, most notably... the telephone. Hense the Bell phone companies and "Baby Bells" and so on. They got their names from him.

Doesn't make him any less famous or notable.

End result is, the guy asked if Bell was Canadian, I answered.

"Whitcomb L. Judson invented the zipper and YKK is the Japanese company that makes them.

Whitcomb L. Judson was a lover of gadgets and machines and the idea for his "clasp locker" came from when a friend had a stiff back from trying to fasten his shoes. Judson's clasp locker was used mostly on mailbags, tobacco pouches and shoes. However, his design, like most first inventions needed to be fine-tuned.

A more practical version came on the scene in 1913 when a Swedish-born engineer, Gideon Sundback revised Judson's idea and made his with metal teeth instead of a hook and eye design. In 1917, Sundback patented his "separable fastener."

The name changed again when the B. F. Goodrich Co. used it in rubber boots, galoshes, and called it the "zipper" because the boots could be fastened with one hand."

and what did we prove?

nothing.

thats how you want to live your life. thinking that anyone who might not share your poltical views or personal values is not thinking. tell yourself that you and those who share your views and opinions are the only one that are thinking. it helps to simplify everything to just declare your superiority and move on... rather than having to pain yourself by trying to intellectualize things before forming an opinion.

This exact thing should be told to that guy who posted the other day that everyone in the middle east should be wiped out for not being as 'civilized' as the rest of the world.

Bingo.

If California seceded, or perhaps was dislodged by a great big earthquake, we would immediately become the 6th largest country if I am not mistaken.

Sounds a little condescending and offensive which others, besides myself have indicated.

However, since you seem to have so neatly summed up 260,000,000 people with such an iron tight argument, perhaps you will enlighten us as to what questions about recent world affairs does this "disconcerting" piece of triva conclusively answers for you?

Well, I wasnt familiar with what "Canada Day" was at all..

Once in a while, I'll catch BBC World News (which is about the only news from outside the US that plays here unless you have a fancy dancy dish or something).

I remember speaking on the phone once at my old work with a canadian lady. She was amused at how I said "owwwwwwt" and I was amused at how she said "oooooot", but thats normal.

Anyway, have fun and happy Canada Day

I don't understand how that implies that I said that anyone was "not thinking".

You really have a hard time understanding things. I can see how people would take it as an implication of ignorance or naivity towards specific areas... it's neither. Just an observation of my own.

Until you can show signs of intelligence, I don't think it would be worth talking to you. Who knows what more words you will try to put in my mouth.

Doesnt sound condescending at all to me.. Being disconcerted sounds about right. I never hear jack squat about Canada unless it's HUGE news. Thats kinda disconcerting being that we share borders.
Theres too many murders and violent crimes on my local and national news for them to get into what happened anywhere else but freaking Iraq and the latest Bush embarassment.

I was not the only one to point out that the tone was a little arrogant. i guess we are all "not thinking" or are not showing "signs of intelligence" as you put it.

This is why I shouldn't both reading your replies. Ok.... I'll type this slow since you seem to read slow.

As I stated, it may seem that it came off as if I was stating "ignorance" or "naivity" towards a certain area... as in, world affairs.

How that translates into "not thinking" is beyond me, but good for you if you think so. Do more of what ever drugs you're on.

As for Michael Moore's fluff boy.. sure, what ever. If you're implying that he's taking things out of context, then you should look in the mirror.

Thus far, I have made statements and you've come back with "so what you mean is" and said something different.

If anything, you should win the award for fabrication.

Now then... I'm sure out of all of this, you'll think I'm stating that I'm hungry or something... since you can't seem to understand the english language, but let me just point out... that you are the one who keeps putting words in my mouth. Not the other way around.

The way it stands right now, you're not making a very good case of it. If I had to judge all Americans based on you, then yes... I'd have to assume that none have ever shown signs of intelligence. Lucky for both of us, I know better.

Canada is hundreds and even thousands of miles away from me. I live 30 miles from Mexico and I don't know any of their holidays either. They have Cinco de Mayo, which I'm assuming is an Independence Day, but I really don't know. Why don't I know? Frankly I just don't care. There, I said it. I'm all important and I have much better things to do than sit around and learn my neighbors History of Independence.

I am an idiot!

I love heading over the border for the 4th. You guys always have better fireworks displays than we do.

Actually, Cinco de Mayo has more meaning in CA than it does in Mexico, it is the anniversary of a battle with France if I recall . . I think they even won . . . which is not too hard to believe . . . it was France after all.

Canada Day is not Canad'a Independence Day either. . . .They just like to steal our holidays and put them just before ours to make it look like they came up with it.

Prime example, Thanksgiving

ah, never really paid that much attention to that stat, been devoting too much time trying to get people to move away, or consider somewhere else for relocation

Well, lets see now. Almost all of Canada's holidays are a copy and/or ripoff of ours. And we know that you believe that as long as you make sure your replica holiday date comes before ours, that somehow we'll believe you really came up with it first.

Soooo... since Sunday is the Fourth of July here, I'm gonna guess it's got something to do with that.

Am I right?

(You know I love the Canadians, btw. You're all a bunch of sexy bitches. And you have the highest per capita concentration of horn dogs in the whole world.)

ahahahah

I swear to God you hadn't posted this when I started typing my reply. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wonders why they always stick their holidays first.

I was born in June simple because I wanted to make sure my birthday was before your country's Independance Day. That way I can say I was born first.

Well I'll say this much while we're on the subject of holidays....

Canada loves it's holidays. We spread out our long weekends a bit better than the USA I think, as we tend to think that your thanksgiving day is a little too close to the Christmas holidays. You have Memorial day, we have Victoria day. We take labour day as a long weekend, and we celebrate Good Friday at Easter, something you Americans don't do.

Hell, we even invented a stat holiday long weeked and called it "August Long"... just for the hell of it. Some of the biggest, wildest nakedest parties in the world happen on that long weekend I can assure you that.

Any excuse to take a paid day off and party.... that's Canada.

See? Perfect example. It's weird how y'all always think we'll fall for that shit.

(I threw that "y'all" in especially for the Canadians, btw.)
