Actually you are wrong =). A Canadian by the name of Elias Howe invented the sewing machine and received a patent on zipper (continuous clothing closure) in 1851. Because of the success of the sewing machine Howe, the inventor did not pursue marketing of his invention. 44 years later Whitcomb Judson marketed a "Clasp Locker" Being first to market gave credit to Judson. The Clasp Locker was actually a complicated "Hook and eye shoe fastner and his patent in 1893 didn't even use the word zipper.
