Dells quality sucks nowadays...

I can't believe you just spent $1500+ on that pc...

I'd cancel the order if you are able...

Can get something better for atleast $400 less

Dell small business 6 months ago I bought several dell 8300s p4 2.8s 800mhz fsb with 400mhz ram for $550 each. Also bought a few 18.1" dell flat panel lcds for $385 each shipped. Its all a matter of waiting for the right sale and stacking a coupon on top of the sale.

the starting price for it was $809...

the monitor was an extra $549

+some extra $ for wireless kyboard/mouse, dvd plyr, burner, ect.

that total price includes shipping and tax.

I thought its a pretty sweet deal with that monitor.

You could very likely build the machine for quite a bit less. It's not as cut and dry as some others are saying it is -- at the low end, it's very hard to compete with companies like dell, since they have volume on their side. But the high end is where they make a bunch on margin, and generally you can build a high end machine yourself for much cheaper.

here is what I would do with that $1,597.00 ....

motherboard = Abit IC7-G ~$135

cpu = P4 2.8C Northwood Socket 478 800FSB ~$175

ram = 1GB Corsair XMS 3200LL (2x 512MB sticks) ~$335

videocard = Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT 'Ultimate Edition' ~$174
(Ultimate Ed has a heatsink instead of a noisey fan)
*also comes with a free Half Life 2 coupon.

harddrives = Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA Hard Drive (~$205 each x2 of them) = ~$410
(You want to put your OS and aps on one drive, and swapfile and data files on the other)

Samsung Black 52X32X52X16 DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive ~$50

SONY Black 1.44MB 3.5inch Floppy Disk Drive ~$10

case = Antec 'Sonata' Quiet ATX case with TruePower supply ~$95

total parts cost = ~$1380

+$140 for WinXP licence = ~$1520

I know that doesn't include a flashy new monitor - but I'd rather have a better PC.

Stick with this exact parts list, and you will have a machine that rivals much more expensive systems, and you should also get a very easy safe stable overclock to 3.5Ghz.

im too lazy to build my own, plus i tried in the past and they always come out fucked up someway or another.

Bought a Dell for a GF, was $650 with better specs but without the flatpanel. You should consider to cancel the order and have a look at the Dell site again. Use a promo them modify it for your needs. BTW, you don't wan's an intgerated video card.

This is a system I bought from them a few months ago:

http://www.wpa.net/~gess/dell.html

It's not bad for what I paid, about the same as you, and it seems to outperform yours.

Like they said, I'd go back, cancel, and try again if I were you. It's all about timing.

I also prefer CRT to LCD, so that might be a factor in your pricing. I upgraded to a 19" CRT. But I also have a video card that allows me to have multiple monitors, and that is worth it in and of itself.

Also, it's completley nutty that I had to pay $20 to have a 3.5" drive.

sounds like a pretty solid machine..
but yea, I agree about the 800 mhz bus.. you might not notice it now, but I think the bus speed is probably one of the things you will notice the most when your pc starts to get outdated.. I know it is with me and my 100 mhz bus

if you have a really smart friend who can build computers I would recommend buying the parts and getting him/her to come over and show you how to do it. You litterally cut your costs in half almost if you know a good wholesaler to get the parts from
