And in a perfect world people wouldn't get their heads cut off.
Webmaster shows have been party shows. Always have been and probably always will be. Many people party and come away with plenty of business. I did some awesome business in San Diego and I was rather intoxicated most nights. Not something I boast about, but you only live once!

The beheading thing was to illustrate that we do not live in a perfect world.

Can't wait to party again at the Westin Diplomat in August. Third straight year there and they haven't told us to get fucked yet. As long as we keep paying they will let us stay.

As for W getting 4 more years, every American that gets beheaded over in the Middle East and the lack of ability to catch those responsible will drop him a few points in the polls. Doesn't matter to voters if Kerry can do a better job, it only matters that someone else will be in the White House to try.

I can't see a hotel throwing someone out for drinking too much...but from some of the shit I have heard, like throwing huge planters around, pulling fire alarms...etc... then yes I agree there is no place in our industry for that kind of shit

Exactly. People go out and have some fun, have some laughs and get too know one another, and almost always end up talking about how they can do business together. Even days later after the event has ceased. If this weren't the case, then why would all these programs throw the parties in the first place?

This isn't webmaster shows, it could be a pharmaceutical convention and the dynamics would be the same once the sun goes down.

Not doing business with a rep because you feel that they were too intoxicated falls into the same category as not doing business with someone because they offended you.

If there is money to be made, who cares?

Not condoning getting wrecked beyond belief, but I really don't give a damn if someone pissed on an atm to be honest. Jace is a super cool guy who seemed to really know what the hell is going on. I am sure lots of people would do business with him, probably already do :thumbsup

Hell, with all the fees I have paid those banking bastards to withdraw money, bless the guys heart! He has my vote LOL

When you start with an industry that is based on mixing business with pleasure (rarely a wise thing) and add in the very nature of the adult internet, which by it's very nature any pimple-faced idiot with a computer and barely a wisp of website knowledge can start promoting porn and making money..... and you have the recipe for seeing unprofessionalism running rampant at business shows. I'm really not surprised by threads like this and am actually surprised there aren't more.

It is what it is. All we can do is try to set an example of treating this like a business and acting professionally and hope some of it rubs off, if we are in fact actually concerned what other people do. I for one am not, but if I ran a program and was sending reps to the shows I'm sure I WOULD care.

And, I would be paying JFK more money than my reps to show me those pics. :Graucho

pornJester 06-18-2004 04:34 PM

I agree, too many dumb sales reps at shows. Get a clue people.

Not true I am alittle older than most here and worked in the business world . It didnt get as crazy as our shows get. Also you found the big players who made the real money working the show stone cold sober. My younger brother works for a pretty big pharma company and he tells me about the people who get alittle wild, he doesnt and he by 2005 will be the companies youngest director ever. The company I worked for when you went to a convention or business event you were told you are representing us til you got back home. Thats why I hated those things I had to be in business mode 24/7 for 4 days straight very tiring. Ever try smiling for 4 days your face hurts lol .

Agreed..

I too have been to conventions were our company had hospitality suite partys and the like at large scale conventions some bigger than internext and they are nothing like the ones we have in our industry..

In fact I brought with me back in 2000 to Internext (the called 1a200) to the shows with me and they were amazed..

Ask any empoyee of any hotel that has hosted a adult convention over others and they will tell you there is no comparison..

As there shouldnt be. We are a different breed.
But it just seems as of late it more abnoxious and Boys gone wild than ever.

However conventions and shows done over and over again can be tiresome in ANY industry.. Our industry nodoubt has the BEST and most FUN conventions than any other industry..

Im sure if I was stuck going to 10 Pharmacutical conventions a year Id be hating life much much more than having to go to 10 adult shows.

Meloman 06-18-2004 05:16 PM

I think we've all gotten a bit too intoxicated at shows at one point or another and said or done something stupid.

The last few shows I've been to I've followed the following game plan:

1. Stay completely sober through out the day and get as much business done as possible.
2. Go to various parties at night and have a few "social" drinks. I'm a small guy so it doesn't take me much to get drunk so I try to just maintain a small buzz early on.
3. Once 12:00 or so rolls around I'll get together with my closer friends and anyone new I've met and have all ready struck business deals with and go hit some strip clubs.

Now away from all parties alone with people that know you as normal, THEN we all let loose and get smashed. At this point it's fun to just party and have a good time. Anyone new I may have just met then can get drunk with us and we all get to know each other. People tend to talk a lot when there drunk and you can bond with people at that point. You're less likely to get fucked over by people you're cool with like that.

This is the way I've tried to handle myself at most shows. Sure in the middle of the night you might find me plastered somewhere and I "may" act a "bit" stupid....but if you're up at 3 am too then I hope you're drinking and having a good time as well.

If a drunken webmasters is enough to make you not want to do biz with them, then I suggest getting all your biz done during the day. Then stick around the parties no later than 11 pm before anyone is too out of hand. Even the top dogs that normal and usually classy can get too tipsy now and again.

Just my :2 cents:

Oh hell yeah! hahah I'll be sure to have my camera at the ready for blackmail pictures. Maybe we can even get some chica to do a lapdance for ya! Hey, you know what would be fun? Getting thrown out of a strip club. Are you up for that? :)

Ok, just re-read it. So you're telling me that no matter how drunk you've gotten you've NEVER said anything sort of stupid? You're in COMPLETE control?

I've never "done" anything stupid at shows but I know when I drink I talk a lot faster than usual and come across as high sometimes. Or I'll act a bit too cocky (which a lot of us can get overly full of ourselves as times). But this is all ways I might act at 3-4 in the morning after lots and lots of drinking. Daytime and early evening I'm totally normal. I'd guess MOST people are in the same boat.

Note: I'm talking about late night craziness though. In general being a complete ass at a show isn't cool

No matter how much I drink, no... I never say anything stupid, or do anything stupid. I remain in control of my actions. Course, I've only ever been drunk 3 times in my life.

So nope... I've never done anything I regret as a result of alcohol.

Actually, I think I was kicked out of a strip club once before, but that wasn't my fault... I was in a group when it happened.

But hey, I'm all for doing it again :thumbsup

Well the sleep deprivation alone wreaks havoc with everyone by the third day of a show. I meant that I had never "let it all hang out" and get blasted drunk or been otherwise out of hand.

It sounds like you really don't drink much and when you do you don't drink heavily and therefore stay in completely control.

That's cool and I commend you for that.

I'm usually a super fun person to party with as many people can attest to. But since the shows are also business events that's why I'll take off later in the night to party with closer friends/associates. This way we avoid possible problems.

I totally hear you. Try partying at night and then being at a booth the next day... talk about sleep deprivation, LOL.

But in all seriousness I don't agree in getting super drunk and making an ass of yourself in front of everyone, but sometimes it happens. If the person is normally in complete control and is respected then it should be overlooked since we all make mistakes.

The only party event that I'm plastered at is the LightSpeed after party in Arizona. EVERYONE gets wasted there and it's just a good time.

But in Vegas or Florida I try to stick to my motto of only getting super torn up after I leave the parties and I'm with a smaller group of "friends".

See, that makes sense... no harm no foul that way.

I grew up in a bar, family business, so I developed a rather unique tolerance to alcohol. So I can drink more than the average person and still retain my faculties.

However, at a convention, I still don't take that chance... because as much fun as they are, I still believe that it's business.

In the course of a night, I will usually have at most 4 drinks. After spending most of my life watching people throw up on themselves or just generally make total asses of themselves, I vowed to never let myself be like that.
