![]() i am planning on formatting my machine soon and want to save a lot of my email messages from outlook. i tried the export feature but i get an error "an error occured while initializing MAPI" and seems to only export to a currently installed microsoft outlook or microsoft exchange program. the error is problem coming up cuz i have neither installed. how can i save these messages so when i format and get outlook installed again to import them back in?

What OS? If using windows XP use the Files & Settings Transfer Wizard. Otherwise...
Create a folder on your backup media for *INBOX* Create any subfolders you also have beneath it. Create a folder for sent mail. In OE, select all messages in each folder and drag to the matching backup folder. Dump them back in the same way. There are also proggys out there to do this, but by the time you'd sift thru download.com you could have done the above.
