Both can choose. Neither gets paid if they say "no", that's all. It's the same job, either way. I have friends who escort and I have friends who do porn. It's based on perception of people in each of the industries and them not wanting to be seen as the other. People perceive that their profession is different from others, because in "society's view" one may be looked down upon. The issue only exists if they're not comfortable with who they are and what they do. Mind you, whenever someone does something that is looked down upon (in "society's view") then it makes it easy for other people to attack them. Oy, I hope that's understandable.

I don't see any basis what-so-ever for criminalizing prostitution.

And that's the only difference I see between the two. One is legal, one is not. So people naturally attack the illegal act and then go on their marry way and light up a joint or drive without a steat belt or jaywalk etc. All stupid laws that many "respectable" people break.

Anyway it's just a label. People in both professions deserve respect either way IMO.
