Both can choose. Neither gets paid if they say "no", that's all. It's the same job, either way. I have friends who escort and I have friends who do porn. The porn friends prefer porn because everyone is tested. The escort friends prefer what they do because once they stop nobody will ever know (unless they get arrested, of course). Both have sex for money so I can't understand why one is looked down upon when the other is considered "modeling" or a "career". :2 cents:

To add to Sleazy's reply, regardless if you're a pornstar or a prostitute, if you're sleeping with a lot of different people, you should be getting checked on a very regular basis for STDs.

It's based on perception of people in each of the industries and them not wanting to be seen as the other. People perceive that their profession is different from others, because in "society's view" one may be looked down upon. The issue only exists if they're not comfortable with who they are and what they do. Mind you, whenever someone does something that is looked down upon (in "society's view") then it makes it easy for other people to attack them. Oy, I hope that's understandable. :)

The only safe solution is abstinence. Shut down the industry all together if you want to prevent AIDS .. and tell "normal" people they can't have sex too.

If you consider the effectiveness of condoms and then compare it with the effectiveness of testing they're probably about the same. Either way something can slip through the radar. I bet you anything that if we had adopted a condom rule, instead of testing, an outbreak would have still occured eventually and then people would be crying out for testing. Condoms may have slowed the spread .. but if we were relying on condoms instead of testing perhaps the outbreak would have slowed but been larger considering no one would have known at first.

To get on topic it doesn't really matter unless you mean "prostitute" in a negative context. I don't see why prostitution is illegal. The government is arleady involved with enough of our lives as it is .. they don't need to be involved in our sex life. If people want to pay for sex or accept money for sex it should be their right. I don't see any basis what-so-ever for criminalizing prostitution.

And that's the only difference I see between the two. One is legal, one is not. So people naturally attack the illegal act and then go on their marry way and light up a joint or drive without a steat belt or jaywalk etc. All stupid laws that many "respectable" people break.

Anyway it's just a label. People in both professions deserve respect either way IMO.
