this really erks me... I mean the surfer is already exiting why do you care you already lost the sale... I can see if it traps the surfer.. but a simple 1 or 2 page console there is nothing wrong with if you ask me... so lets hear your thoughts... cause I just had an affilliate complain about it.. and it really gets to me... and if you all think a small console effects sales your all wrong...

I agree. Nothing wrong with a few clean exit pages, however, a lot of TGP/MGP/LL owners would prefer console free tours to promote loyalty to their surfers. They want to make sure their surfers aren't getting jerked around by sponsors making them more likely to bookmark the site. Hence, most sponsors offering a lower payout for console free tours.

Soulcash gives you two options. We have console free and traffic back, where the affiliate decides where their exit traffic goes. Both options pay $5 less per join.

If the exits don't carry the affiliate code and you're not paying per signup, personally I have been dropping all sites like that.

Many other sponsors to push that do pay on exits, so why push your sites instead of theirs, ya dig?

was not talking to you fletch... I like you.. and I do have no console tours for affiliates that take the time to ask me.. just some of the comments that I get in there like

exit with my code cool exit with out not cool.. I just take that as rude.... I tottally work with any affiliate that asks

DS.... my paysite has no consoles... and our new tour will be default without but an option to HAVE. The with console tour will payout more than the regular as an incentive.

Revshare affiliates hate popups due to leaks.

I know when I was submitting it erked me.

Because numerous enter/exit consoles piss surfers off and the surfer might not visit your site (tgp/ LL/ freesite) ever again.

On the other hand, if your surfers trust you - they will continue to come back to your site again and again.

I agree that all affiliate programs should have a non-console tour with lower payout.

main reason for me is because popups irritate the S H I T out of the surfer.... and if alot of my links go to sites with popups then that means no return visitors or bookmarkers...when i surf for porn I get irritated the s h i t out of popups myself.

TGP traffic is notoriously poor, so the promise of no-popup tours is just one thing in the search to make the most of it that you can. And face it, the surfers who will visit tours are certainly the ones you want to treat the best. The ones who will look are the only ones who can buy.

I have a few sites for which I don't really expect repeat visitors and for them I will tolerate consoles. But I never actually like them.

I have been cynical about consoles ever since I realized that some sponsors made no real effort to sell via their tours. It is just easier to avoid consoles completely, than figure out their place in every sponsor's strategy, what I do and don't get paid for, etc.

And consoles are to blame for a lot of people's reluctance to click on sponsor links. We forget that file requests hitting our servers actually have real people on the other end. I don't know how we ever managed to convince ourselves it smart to play games no bricks-and-mortar business would contemplate for a second.

Sure they made money. And if you throw enough mud some of it sticks. But it was also a lazy and destructive way to filter traffic, offer options, etc. Consoles have never done anything which with a little more thought, couldn't be done some other way.

As to the argument about the need to shave if consoles go. Well that depends on who you believe: the sponsors who say that these days consoles generate very little income, or the ones who (based on their deductions for console-free tours) want you to think that consoles still generate 15%-20% of their income. In any case, consoles or not, there is no guarantee you won't be shaved.

Why should I get credit for it? I sent you my traffic - the one real commodity in this business. I was able to market your site well enough to get my surfer to visit your site. YOU were NOT able to market your site well enough to get my surfer to sign up. YOU failed; I did not.

(This is the "general" you - I don't send traffic to any of Dirty_DS's sites. This goes for all sponsors.)

If exit consoles are no big deal, why are you using them? Oh, because they work? Because exit traffic is valuable? Exactly. That's traffic your affiliates sent to you. We take it as seriously as you do.

Offer straight-to-join options. Offer console-free options. Offer traffic-back options. Sure, discount the pay rate for these, but offer them.

I did agree that they worked (start of second-last para).

But there are two ways of defining what works: there is the here and now, and there is tomorrow and next year, etc. Consoles are just one way in which we behave like traders in a tourist trap: it doesn't matter how we treat the customers, because chances are we shall never see them again.

That is likely true of many surfers. Once they have satisfied their curiosity, they probably won't buy any more. But the longer our industry exists, the more we depend on repeat customers. Year-on-year, newbie surfers become a smaller part of the whole 'Net population.

Go back 8 years and everyone had money bars and blind links were limited to the likes of Sex Swap. Then we found consoles and a lot of us stopped trying to target surfers and to filter them. If they didn't buy off your main page, you hit them with a console. If they didn't buy off the first console, you hit them with another. Etc.

But they remain an intrusive and because we couldn't restrain ourselves to using them reasonably, they are a very unpopular way of achieving what can be done in other ways. Perhaps the alternatives are not as effective in the short term, but you cannot seriously believe that the fear of popup hells isn't one reason that it is much harder to get surfers clicking these days.
