anyone else driven B.C.'s highway 99 south to Whistler?

so i drove from Edmonton to Whistler on Sunday. took highway 1 all the way to Kamloops/Cache Creek, then a short jaunt on 97 north, and finally hit 99 south.

over 200 KM of insane twists, turns, elevation gains and drops. wow... i've driven similar roads many times, but none that went on and on for such a length of time. great drive. anyone else done it?

my Porsche definitely had it's first serious workout of the year

I have never done any of the Mountain roads in Canada, I did however do a road in northern Cali one time..it went from 101 along the coast to interstate 5..about 150 miles.. i thought I would be to the highway in 3 hours tops...HOLY SHIT.. was I stupid. It was the most hellish road I had ever been on, took me almost 6 hours of hell to get over this pass, 180 turns non stop for hours, it was snowing several feet deep.. no cars.. I had no chains and was sliding from corner to corner there for a while..I really didnt even think I was going to make it off the mountain without going over a cliff....

I bought a 4wheel drive and I'm ready to go on that road again

would definitely be stressful on that road. bad breaks especially. the road is awesome, but you need a sports car to really enjoy it (imho).

C U Next Tues - hehe, nice.

Drove it in both my S2000 and Supra

Fun drive.

The drive to Tofino is even better though. Less cops, less traffic, more turns, more speed. :D

Done it with my bird a couple times, one time leaving Whistler after a snowstorm, was extremely perilous.

Another time driving back to Whistler at night ended up stopping and going around a bunch of natives making a campfire in the middle of the road. LOL

Fucked up road but beautiful view.

Ferry to Victoria. Then you gotta head in some roundabout way to get to the highway to Tofino. Then... it's just hours of intense driving with some amazing sights. I can't find my map. Checkout Mapquest.com
