anyone else driven B.C.'s highway 99 south to Whistler?

so i drove from Edmonton to Whistler on Sunday. took highway 1 all the way to Kamloops/Cache Creek, then a short jaunt on 97 north, and finally hit 99 south.

over 200 KM of insane twists, turns, elevation gains and drops. wow... i've driven similar roads many times, but none that went on and on for such a length of time. great drive. anyone else done it?

my Porsche definitely had it's first serious workout of the year :)

BRISK 04-20-2004 02:03 AM

Did ya have some kick ass driving music?

Jakke PNG 04-20-2004 02:08 AM

I bet my motorcycle-nut friend would have loved it. My 1.2 liter clio would just fall off the cliffs.

VeriSexy 04-20-2004 02:09 AM

Sounds like allot of fun :thumbsup

bling_machine 04-20-2004 02:19 AM

I did it in a 68 Fargo van with no guts and shit breaks.

Good times, good times...well not really, horribly fucking stressful but still a beautiful ride.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 04-20-2004 02:19 AM

I have never done any of the Mountain roads in Canada, I did however do a road in northern Cali one time..it went from 101 along the coast to interstate 5..about 150 miles.. i thought I would be to the highway in 3 hours tops...HOLY SHIT.. was I stupid. It was the most hellish road I had ever been on, took me almost 6 hours of hell to get over this pass, 180 turns non stop for hours, it was snowing several feet deep.. no cars.. I had no chains and was sliding from corner to corner there for a while..I really didnt even think I was going to make it off the mountain without going over a cliff....

I bought a 4wheel drive and I'm ready to go on that road again :1orglaugh

would definitely be stressful on that road. bad breaks especially. the road is awesome, but you need a sports car to really enjoy it (imho).

C U Next Tues - hehe, nice.

ALiEn_OuT 04-20-2004 03:26 AM

Used to drive her every weekend between Vancouver and Whistler... The ride was always entertaining with my 94 tt RX-7...I miss those days and drives greatly.

xenigo 04-20-2004 03:37 AM

I've done the drive part way, but it's been years. Simply amazing views.

do it in mid-January and then we'll talk.

your sewing machine on wheels would be laying at the bottom of a mountain.

fktup 04-20-2004 10:02 AM

are they still doing construction between Squamish & Whistler?

Huggles 04-20-2004 10:11 AM

Drove it in both my S2000 and Supra

Fun drive.

The drive to Tofino is even better though. Less cops, less traffic, more turns, more speed. :D

GTS Mark 04-20-2004 10:23 AM

I used to drive the sea to sky from Vancouver to Whistler almost once a week to go snowboarding.

Fuck it was awesome in my S4!!! Put on some rocking music and just fucking blast through the twistys!

hehe cool :) My dad let me drive his RX7 from Squamish all the way home to Vancouver when I only had my learner's license. I was scared shitless but MAN was it fun! WOoooohooooooo! I love RX7's :)

Dildozer 04-20-2004 12:48 PM

Done it with my bird a couple times, one time leaving Whistler after a snowstorm, was extremely perilous.

Another time driving back to Whistler at night ended up stopping and going around a bunch of natives making a campfire in the middle of the road. LOL

Fucked up road but beautiful view.

Ferry to Victoria. Then you gotta head in some roundabout way to get to the highway to Tofino. Then... it's just hours of intense driving with some amazing sights. I can't find my map. Checkout Mapquest.com :)
