Roger Ebert's Review of "Gladiator"
http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/ebert_...05/050501.html
I just read his review of "Gladiator" and was so incredulous I had to post it............2 Stars he gave it out of 4! Quotes: The film looks muddy, fuzzy and indistinct. Its colors are mud tones at the drab end of the palette, and it seems to have been filmed on grim and overcast days. The story line is "Rocky" on downers. It employs depression as a substitute for personality, and believes that if the characters are bitter and morose enough, we won't notice how dull they are. ******************** Oh yeah.........but I forgot.........this is the same guy who gave "Hellboy" the equivalent amt. of stars as "Return of the King." I think Ebert, as bloated and full as he is with himself, has entered the realm of senility. ![]() |

He is right about some of that though. The film does look, "muddy, fuzzy and indistinct. Its colors are mud tones at the drab end of the palette, and it seems to have been filmed on grim and overcast days."
But yeah, Ebert is losing it...I didn't think people actually listened to him anyways.

And btw, another annoying thing about Ebert; if he agrees with the politics of the movie, he'll love it.............if he doesn't, no matter how great the movie is, he'll snuff it. But yes, as he is getting older, he's losing it. I miss watching Siskel insulting him and putting him in his place when he needed doing so. |
