If I offer to help the newbies in this game does that make me a bad man?

From time to time I see new webmasters ask for advice here and get their asses flamed back to the stoneage

If I offer my help to new people would that make me a bad man?

If you are new and need some guidance and directions in your prodjects feel free to contact me by icq.

icq: 20231065

I helped newbies for over 6 years now and it given me a powerfull network of people over the years.

Do anyone think you can make it without a network in this bizz?

I think it's great if you have the time to do it...
although ya gotta understand most webmasters don't.

And the flaming BS you mentioned ... it's just people trying to show off, we all know that ^^

Keep it up bro!

Where did the idea that bringing in new people and grooming them during a slow economy come from? Who thought this would be a good idea?

Dennis, we've been friends for years and usually we see eye to eye on things but I don't think crowding this industry with affiliates is a good idea when our customer base has less money to spend. The math just doesn't work out brother.

If they are here they are gonna get in the business one way or another . We better help them so they don't ruin the traffic and waste it .

Ok, so I'm not misunderstood here, I know that there will always be new people coming into this industry. The same is true for any industry. There are several newbies I'm working with currently because they have actively sought me out and asked for the help. I'm ok with that. It's the open invitation that I think is a bad idea. That's newbie farming and it only accelerates the inflation.

If we're all sharing the same pie the goal is that we all have our fill. We can not control the size of the pie but we can control who gets to sit at the table. The pie is stagnant because of a very real, very global, economic slowdown. There is nothing wrong with a few newbies using their option to RSVP and not sit at that table.

If you're gonna help then at the very least be honest. If some new kid doesn't have what it takes then have the balls to tell him so. I've meet many folks that just didn't have the time nor the capacity for understanding that it takes to make it so I tell them honestly that they need to find something else to do. If the rest of you guys want to sheperd the herd then all I ask is that you're honest with these folks.

Sensei,

I have always knew doing things and being nice to people...gets you further in this world than being a bitter dick. For me it just feels better being nice than be nasty.

Always help those who need help..comes back in dividends...never know who you are going to help and how they may or may not help you in the future...

hummm... Intresting, it's a fact that most affiliates dont send more than a couple of hits per month or nothing. I don't really know, but people need to know BEFORE they start in this business- what it really takes, this is not easy money without work(what I thought before
I went in to this biz)...

You also need to think about- people do
leave this industry too.

AND... It's no secret that your popularity will not grow
from all people ALREADY involved in this biz.

But who can statisfy all people?

I pin point a smart newbie from stupid newbies.
There is a big difference between the two figuring out what is a smart one and stupid is not easy but when ya find a smart one its well worth the subtle tips to them, they tend to remember things like that down the road.

Well lamar I am not saying I take people from the street and teach them all I know

But I do not mind giving pointers to new people.

I would never teach people everything I learned over the years.

That is just not possible.

But I would however give them a idea what to do and how to do it.

After that its up to them if they got it or not.

Well hopefully the people that you have helped wind up signing up under some of your programs and not forget all about you.I think sadly thats the problem, they expect free advice that you had to learn the hard way through trial and error and they just dissapear after while.
Sure you don't expect them to become good friends but don't use a person either.

Well someone has to say it:

You're an idiot - helping newbies is the worst thing you can do - you end up with a bunch of industry cripples who expect you to do the work for them.

You find your site designs and your ideas stolen and used - and half the idiots don't even have enough of a clue to change the referrer codes in the sites they stole from you.

Then you also face the problem of giving some one advice and getting abused when they go broke because they are too stupid to take your advice.

Helping newbies if for people who love wasting their time.

I may not entirely agree with what I just said but after doing it for several years I'm getting closer and closer to agreeing with every syllable of what I just wrote.

my anti-newbie rap song:

My success would be the death of you
Low and behold, you sold ya soul, theres nothing left of you
Look in the mirror, ask yourself, who are you If you dont know what you do, how could ya dreams come true

Muthafucka newbie, I sat backed and watched ya, you pretended to be a playa
Till this industry die you won't get any help from me- from me
And you can hate it or love it, but thats what it's go'n be- go'n be
Shoulda listened, I told you not to fuck wit me- wit me
Now can you take the pressure, that's what we go'n see- go'n see

Don't be a complete moron - just because I dared voice an opposing opinion you have to label me a hater?

Of course I was new and I owe a lot to the guys who started me on the path that I am now on - people like Rowdy and Frank from ANS - Danger Dave and others as well.

Of course I understand how it is to be a newbie but I didn't try to feed of the guys who showed me how to get started and you are just an insulting fool if you think that what I have said in any way shows that I am full of hate or don't understand what it is like to be a newbie.

You come back and say that to me when you have been threatened with blackmail by some halfwitted prick - who posts on GFY btw - because after spending hours on ICQ trying to help him and even phoning him in America from where I live in Australia I suggested that he actually try to ftp something to his site himself!

If you want to start serious discussion here then be prepared for dissenting views - if all you want is people to pat you on your head and tell you what a good guy you are for helping newbies then for fucks sake say that in your first post and people like me won't waste our time on dipshits like you.

Well maby hate was the wrong word then

It seems like you maby helped out a little to much in your days.

I would never take on a guy who have 0 know how about this game.

But I do not mind helping people who might have some questions or want some feedback on prodjects they done.

I dont say my way is the best or only way at all I just offer my opinion and honesty.

And I do not try to come on like im the good guy all the time but I do not mind to help a person out. But ofcourse if they fuck up or do something terribly wrong like stealing stuff or just act plain stupid even after I helped them they end up on my ignore list and it can take a few month or years to get in contact with me again ;)

So sorry if I made you feel like I was calling you a hater...

My english is not that good

That really is a cop-out which sounds good for all of thirty seconds if you actually think about it.

This is the INTERNET, not Main Street in a small town! What are the odds that you and your protogé will ever target the exact same surfer? And if you think about the payback - building a network of people (not all of whom will be ungrateful assh*les) plus the chance that some will have fresh ideas right away - and if you have the time, helping people out is a great investment.

It isn't just about newbies: most of us are paranoid about telling anyone anything useful. So what if 500 people read an info-post and only 2 of them ever hahahahaha informative posts in return? That's still twice as much information coming back as you are giving away. And that's only intended as fake logic for the people who still haven't figured out that you can show someone exactly how you made money and they still won't be able to do it.

My english is not that good
Yeah well ... you may not be a dipshit either

Bottom line is this. If helping newbies fattens your wallet, then go for it. If it doesn't fatten your wallet in any way, maybe you should keep the help to yourself. But, even if it fattens your wallet, is it possible this person may be in direct competition with you if they take your advice and apply it successfuly? In which case, maybe it's also best to keep things on the low down.

helping is one thing. showing how to do galleries, tgps and what not is cool with me.

things that i wont teach/tell: my keywords, search engine manipulation.

Perfect example is expired domains: the more ppl that know, the harder it will be to get it.

Nope - it makes you a very good man I think, provided you don't have an ulterior motive that is too deceptive!
