Speaking from a promo, free site, tgp'er perspective......
1. Do not be afraid to re-invest. 2. Do not waste time promoting something you don't feel right about about. Just because it works for someone else, it may not for you. Follow your heart! promo stuff you beieve in, something you would join if you were not a webmaster, something you LIKE. 3. Do not be an ass on boards and other contacts. Egos just burn bridges. 4. Promo hard the stuff where you have a communication with someone from the company you are promoting, at least I find that works for me. 5. Go to the webmaster partys, let them buy you drinksand other funny stuff, good PR. lazzlo |
Treat your members / customers well and develop relationships with them. Everybody likes to feel important, and that simple act of a special photo on their birthday, or some acknowledgement of their interests will build a lifetime of loyalty.
Loyalty = Retention, and rebills are how you eat. |

Don't be afraid to reinvest every penny into your adult business until you have hit your target revenue, then begin investing your porn profit in mainstream ventures like real estate and stocks.
What to invest in? Tools that will accelerate your revenue engines (could be content, scripts, traffic, whatever makes your business more scalable and efficient and what ever takes your successful source of income and multiplies it.) Another point: while you are growing your business "dance with the one that brung ya". If you made a lot of cash from one technique, don't think you've reached a new level and abandon that technique for 'the next big thing'... just accellerate that technique even higher while you launch the new effort in parallel. |

Well, I think it's quite simple, and yet it isn't:
KNOW WHO YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE! -Make a proper Segmentation on that basis. -Target your products at the right segments. -Position them optimally. Basic marketing. Unfortunately this is a quite expensive process...but it works! |
seperate your business affairs from your personal life.
that means incorporate your business, and keep your financial records seperate |

1. If a potential customer has a question, answer it and do it nicely
2. Dont screw people over, it will only hurt you in the long run even if you make a quick buck for it now 3. Put an ADD TO FAVORITES button on your sites, customers like things to be easy for them and if they click that, you could have a potential customer for life! 4. Supply what you are selling, give people what they paid for! |
oh, please consider all my entries in the last post individually

This is my best:
Put an ADD TO FAVORITES button on your sites, customers like things to be easy for them and if they click that, you could have a potential customer for life! |

There's always a better, more efficient way to do things. Search for that at all times
Focus on creating value for the customer. If you create value, everything else falls into place Get yourself a good mentor ? someone who's been around lots who can help you avoid the pitfalls. And realize that, no matter what, you're still going to end up in some of those pitfalls Every day is a new opportunity to win or lose. If you want to be realistic, then count the cost, understand what you're getting into, talk to people about the risks and rewards Research, research, research Take the risk You have to be a pit bull. You've got to go at it every day, no matter how many times you get kicked in the ass, with everything you've got Keep a sense of humor |
Learn from your mistakes....or even better, learn from the mistakes of others.

How to get rid of your SPAM.
This solution isn't for the masses because it might be considered too "complicated", but it will work perfectly for anyone here with zero lost emails and nearly no time lost filtering junk mail from real mail. 1. Buy a domain. 2. Give everyone their own custom email. ie... you have a friend Robert, Jane, Sarah.. Give them: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] If you sign up for ebay... give them: [email protected] If you sign up for dotster... use [email protected] Never post your email address in plain text somewhere that it can be harvested but not changed (like Usenet or WWWboards) If any of them get compromised, you can always log into your account and change your email address they have on file & blacklist the old one. If it was a personal contact, just send them like three emails to let them know you have updated THEIR email address for you because you ahve been getting spam on it, and now its [email protected] for example. It is very easy to blacklist email addresses with Qmail: Just create a dotfile with the account you want to blacklist: .qmail-robert and put: /dev/null inside it... that's it! No more mail will be delivered from that address. I found that 90% of my spam mail came from my domain contacts. Luckily I was using [email protected] so all I had to do was update the contact info and blacklist the old domain. Those domain contact spam lists are very old. It is much harder (but not impossible) to harvest big numbers of whois records for free now... so if you were to update your contact information and blacklist the old address(s) then you would see a huge drop of spam without any collateral damage (lost valid emails) Spam can definitely effect your progress throughout the day by cutting into the amount of time you have to spend working on things. This method will help you reclaim most of that lost time. Btw... it's not hard to start using this method retroactively. Just look at your contact list & start logging into your accounts and changing the addresses on file. If they are personal contacts, just be sure to update them with their new email address for you. |

set yourself targets, this should be done with every business venture you do, hit the targets then make new ones, hit those then make new ones, repeat until death

Go to a big webmaster board and make a contest that rewards the best business tip :2 cents:
Think it's pretty obvious the prizes are mine :thumbsup |

Find your niche and then be the best at it. You can't be all things to all people, and trying to just results in half assed unsuccessful projects. It is better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a huge pond. The most important thing in business is perseverance. By having the attitude that your never going to give up, you are already ahead of a lot of people in this world. I have known plenty of very smart people that could have been very successful, but they give up on things easy. |
Write down your goals, even put them on a plaque. Hang it over the toilet where you will be facing it every morning when you take a piss. Never lose site of them. If you want to earn $100000.00 this year, break it down to $8333.33 a month, or 1923.08 a week which is 273.97 a day. It already looks a whole lot easier doesnt it? You can reach your Goals, Believe in yourself and you will go far.

Work Hard Play Hard.
Put a full day of work in, get the most for your time. Don't fuck around at all during your 8 hour day. Put at least 10% of your gross back into your business. Not 10% of what you net. Its called tithing. If you're failing to bring in money, change what you are doing. Its not working. If something works and makes you money, do it again. Give people a break, someone gave you one. Pay it back. When work is over put it away. If you aren't happy your work will reflect it. Party!!!! reward your efforts no matter how small with a gift to yourself. Remeber Stephen Kings motto. " All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. " |
Never judge a book by its cover.
Some of the most fucked up looking sites out there bring in mega cash. Have you really looked at the huns page? I think my 9 year old daughter a has a better site. Not to mention some of the best looking sites on the net make nothing and only get only a few hits a day. I had to fire an employee with a suit and a GQ haircut because he was a fucktard. and the blue haired bitch with the staples in her eyebrow doubled productivity and increased sales 10%. hummmmmmm |
ANALYSE
50% of your daily routine should be analysing. You can think you have great ideas and work your ass of but how can you tell? Analyse what your surfer clicks. Analyse where he signs up for. Analyse what days/times he likes to surf. Analyse his clickingpattern. Analyse where he is coming from. Analyse how he found you. Analysing shows facts that bring you succes so you can do more of the good things and less of the bad things. So do the math... |

The best advice I could give anyone would be this:
When building a business, just as in building a house, it's structure will only be as good as it's foundation. So, build your business starting with yourself, from a place of honesty and integrity. That means do what you say you'll do, do it on time, deliver better service than you promised, and be professional to all those you do business with. Strive to improve yourself always, and in this business the key to that is to listen and learn from those who have succeeded before you. Do that and your house will be solid. |

Here's the winner. |
Acknowledge what it is that you do best, and stick with that. Don't delude yourself that you are a designer / photographer/ etc when you have limited talent in that area. Leave the things that you are weak on to the pros, and your time will be much better spent.
