LOTR tied with Ben-Hur and Titanic for the most awards. That's saying a lot comparing it to Ben-Hur.

LOTR!!!

Yeah, at the end they mentioned it tied for the most awards won with Titanic too. I was surprised.

But tonight's coronation was really for the whole series. Up till now, the others only received costume/technical/special effects type Oscars.

I've said it b4, and I've seen thousands upon thousands of movies, ROTK is the best movie I have even seen.

Congrats to Peter Jackson........you have now become a legend of film and no one deserves it more!

SWEEP BABY!!!

And Hottoddy, it IS the best trilogy of all time as well, leaving all others in the dust...........can't wait for the Extended DVD Special Collection Issue of them all..........up on the mantlepiece those will go.

I liked the LOTR trilogy. But i think they had quite the gall to change things from the book. Why was the shire never burned? Why did so many people that died in the book survive in the movie?

The whole point about great victory only coming with great sacrifice is kind of lost when nobody fucking dies.

I thought the same thing until I watch the dvd when peter jackson and about 20 other people go into great depth as to why they did things the way they did...why some people never died, why some characters in the book (tom bombadil) never made it into film, why some characters (faramir for example) acted completely different in the film then they did in the book, and why some speeches were delivered by completely different characters (something like wormtongue gave speech in the film that was originally given by gandalf in the book) etc, etc..

Made sense when they explained it, then again they are the ones all the way to the $$ bank

That wouldn't have changed one bit had they stuck to the story exactly as Tolkien wrote it.

I still enjoyed the trilogy, though.

Its nice to see the Academy get with it for once. Its a shame it had to take a behometh film like ROTK to finally break thru for the fantasy genre. But what a record setting breakthrough! The other two that won 11 didn't have a clean sweep. This is unprecedented.

Now, about that Extended version DVD, Peter?

Apparently in May we can look forward to an extended version in the theatres.

More oliphaunts, fellbeasts, orcs, and hobbits; yeah, I think I can handle that :D

As was stated before (not by me), the sweep was really for the entire series, not for just ROTK. Well deserved for the series IMO.

I've never bought a DVD in my life, but I sure as hell will be buying the extended version of all 3 movies when the collection hits the shelves.

I just hope they edit the 4 endings of ROTK into one merged ending like it should have been done in the first place

Well you sure have something to look forward to then, my friend. It is amazing how much work went into this, and how interesting this created world is. Its the best trilogy ever, nothing else is even close (The Godfather series comes closest but the 3rd one was putrid so that one got dragged down).

And Return of the King is simply a masterpiece........if you let yourself go and lose yourself in it, it sure doesn't seem like 3.5 hrs; not too often a series can sweep you away and capture the imagination.

I think "The Hobbit" will get done, but only in around 4 years or so when negotiations are agreed upon between New Line and MGM as to the rights of the movie.

And of course, the great Peter Jackson will direct.

LOTR was soooo damn good. I think the trilogy was the best set of movies since the first three star wars flicks.

I really think his next project should be taking on the "The Chronicles of Narnia". That would so kick ass to see all seven books done in the same style as the LOTR trilogy.

Actually they're already prepping that. Jackson isn't involved but Weta workshop are doing the effects and they're going to be filming in New Zealand starting this summer I believe.

NICE! i knew Jackson was doing King Kong but what a waste... if they've got the WETA crew behind them then it should be on point. looks like they're gonna skip right over The Magician's Nephew just like Jackson did with the Hobbit. What's with fucking up the actual storyline??
