Fox News viewers are more likely than CNN viewers to think that Iraq helped Al Qaeda

Someone posted a poll about this a while ago. Anyone have the url?

fox news is dangerous

i think its ironic that the best mobilizers of the working class in America are its oppressors, honestly, only in the good ol US of A would someone be stupid enough to vote for someone who's interests contradict their own

Well, what I actually need it for is something about the combination of commercial mass media and true democracy, a combination of two things that are actually probably mutually exclusive.

This is just one example though, there are other - and even stronger - ones. For instance, in the buildup to the invasion of Iraq all 175 newspapers owned by Rupert Murdoch appear to have backed the war in their editorials. Or just think about Berlusconi... a guy who has been convicted of corruption in the past, but happens to have a media monopoly in Italy and manages to become prime minister.

Although the Berlusconi example may be a very extreme and explicit example, the point remains that commercial media are not independant and thus can not be trusted to be objective. Considering the fact that commercial media are (among) the primary sources of political information for voters in most democracies, and voters base their choices on the information available to them, no true democracies exist at this time.

This is not a "left vs right" issue either, but rather one that threatens the very essence of western civilization.

Quite... it amazes me that people take commercial media (or any media, for that matter) at face value. It seemed so absurd, looking in from outside the US, reading all these American opinion polls around the time Bush invaded Iraq, and all the idiots who obviously truly believed that Saddam had a hand in 9/11... the mind boggles.

Not a single person I talked to believed he had any involvment. I don't know who the hell they poll. I live in NY and personally I blame the sourthern states. ITs too bad the initial primaries take place there and poeple place so much importance on the outcome of those campaigns.

Anyways poeple who don'r hang up on pollsters do not represent the actual concensus of voting americans.

This is not just a problem of the US though. Most other western countries have the exact same problem. The media are (potentially) biased, which completely changes the nature of democracy.

hrmph, well im from VA and I think everyone i know shared your sentiments. but i think the majority of the problem is the ability for the media to mobilize consent with the unwashed masses. the sheep, status quo image is almost as important as the lust for wealth in America. anyway, the constitution set the system up to be controlled by upper class elites, so don't feel surprised when you see wealthy manipulate the many

You need to keep in mind where the poll was taken and how. If it was a poll taken on Fox News website then it will usually lean towards whatever Bush says is true but believe it or not that is slowly changing as the administration continues to put its foot in their mouth..

All the medias are owned by big compagnies ... Microsoft want to get the biggest ones right now . But they got billions of military contract with the governement . If they start really speaking their mind they will loose them . So the fucking corporate propaganda is everywhere right now.
