I'd buy F-117 which was shaked down under Yugoslavia. But I think it would cost too much for me...

about 6 years ago one of the smaller airports in our area got about 10 of them. They were going for 30k a piece disassembled, however, to have them put together correctly it cost about 100k.

The cost of maintaining it would be many times the cost of purchasing the airplane. Anybody here who has a plane can tell you how much plane maintenance costs. A friend had to replace a very tiny little switch on his Twin Piper. It looked like it would cost about $5 at Radio Shack (all it did was make a squeek if you dropped below a certain altitude without the landing gear down)
It cost $1500 dollars.

Propably $5 for the part and $1495 for the parts company liability coverage.

Why would they sell it rather than keep it and use it for themselves?

NICE!!

As for the Mig, more than anything else now, it is a collectible if one has the money.

most warbirds and jets in usa are licensed in the "experimental" category.

this can hold down maintenance costs to a degree, but limits where you can fly. and because of high stall speeds you cannot land and takeoff everywhere, you'll need a long runway.

but if you want to actually own a jet, and you need to ask the cost, then jet owning will not be the thing for you.

for general aviation types there are a few jets you can buy and actually fly if you are in the income range of 500k+/year. most are eastern european trainers, usually 2-seaters tandem, sometimes single engine, with prices starting under 100K used.

but that is just the entry price. yearly maintenance, fuel (jets are thirsty) and insurance can exceed the price of the jet.

go to Oshkosh in the summertime to see them.

they are flown in by surgeons, and millionaire entrepreneurs wearing baseball caps.

they are the ultimate toy, and not for doobie smokers.

Yeah seriously - the Mig costs more than the F18!

Take a look at the instrument panel on that Mig. It's probably the same setup since the 50's...

Oshkosh rocks if you love aviation!

Seriously, at Oshkosh, one of those baseball cap wearing millionaire's once told me that when it comes to owning fighter jets, buy Russian as they're way over-enginered.

But when it comes to buying jets, buy another one for spares, buy two if you can, shit happens.

The eBay listing lists this as being one of two MiG-29's in the U.S., Larry Ellison, who started Oracle and is worth in the ballpark of $15+ Billion owns or owned the other.
