What a fucking joke. So my girlfriend and I have a little extra time today between running errands and we happened to pass a BMW dealership. So we decide to make a quick run in to take a look at a couple of their new SUV's.
We were in the showroom climbing all over this new X3 SUV they had checking in out. ![]() We were opening up the hatches, checking this and that for over 10 minutes. We were looking for help and not ONE salesperson even ackowledged we were alive. Not even a hello, absolutely unbelievable! There were over 6 salespeople on the floor and many of them were in their little cubicles talking on the phone or filling out paperwork. I went out of my way to get someone to even make eye contact with me and they shunned us. I could'nt believe this, so I just said fuck this lets go. Now this is the 2nd time I have gone to a BMW dealership and received less than even a hello. Has anyone else ever gone to a dealership and had this happen to them? Most dealerships I go to as soon as I roll up they are pretty much waiting at the curb and all over me. BMWDH |

Its better than the opposite . I rather have to go get somebody to ask questions then have a seller thats trying to push me to buy a model that he will get a bigger cut because it dosen't sell a lot . Or whatever crap they are trying to sell . I like that attitude better ;)

Try going to a Ferrari dealer. I have found the best service I have experienced was at Lincoln and lexus dealers.

Yeah, I know the feeling.
We had the same problem at a Jaquar dealership in Southern Calif. I think most 'nice' car dealers are this way. I went to a Benz place and had the same treatment. Honestly, I think they are all that way. In fact, I dropped 80k for my 03 Jaguar S Type (R). That was the last time they ignored me ![]() |

I completely understand your frustration, for me it was the opposite. I went to the Benz dealership and they wouldn't give me the time of day. Then they had the nerve to ask if I had an appointment. What a joke.
So I went to the BMW dealership instead. |

I've had nothing but great experiences with BMW of Honolulu. The guy I talked to insisted that I test drive one of the cars, even though I really didn't want to. Me and a friend went and he just gave me the keys and let us take it, I was shocked. Yesterday I went to look at Porsches and no one really acknowledged me at first, but then he came over and we went over some stuff. If they ever piss you off and think they're above you, just remember that they're still a car salesman.

I had the same trouble. Didn`t get any real attention until I told the salesman that i`d pay cash for the new m3 - but he said it was a 7 month wait for the color I want.

The opposite happens to me at the local BMW dealership. I couldn't get them to go away. I had long scraggly hair (half way down my back) and had not shaved in a couple of days also. They kept asking if I wanted to test drive and made sure I had plenty of brochures and cards when I left.

It sucks being treated like that... it happened to me in the past and I'm sure it will happen in the future. The fact is we're based on outside appearances... be it young, different race etc. It sucks but that's the reality of life

just thinking bout it gets me hard!! but then again, most things do. im a fucking perv. |

i was just up at a Galpin dealership checking out cars and after playing with the car for awhile and not being bothered the receptionist asked if i needed help. I said no then went outside to look around some more. One guy who was inside, came up to me and asked if i had any questions, next thing i knew i was on a test drive. We spent like an hour and a half driving around shooting the shit. Most pleasurable experience I've had ever. Very soft sell & I'm considering buying this particular car.
Getting hassled and the hard sell fucking sucks. |

I went to a Ford dealership today, to check out the Lightning, was attacked by atleast 50 sales people.
Then i went to an Infinity dealership, because i want to buy a G35 coupe, no one bothered to even come out. At the BMW dealer, they've only assisted me 25% of the time. A simple "Hello, if you need any help you can find me over here." would probably increase theyre sales pretty nicely... |

DH something similar happened to me in the GM dealership looking at Escalades,
talked to some sales guy in a suit that didnt show any interest in talking with me. I was VERY serious at buying (ended up buying my BMW X5) month later. Asked him prices, this question and that, then I asked him one question I already asked at the beg. he said I ALREADY TOLD YOU... I was like WHAT?????? I looked at him, got out of the car, walked to the manager and said this sales person was VERY RUDE to me, I am a serious buyer in the next month. and walked out. Manager was like Sir, Sir I just kept walking..... Fuck these suit assholes, I got more money then 99.9% of these losers in a suit. |

1. Approach a customer on a personal level, ask tons of questions about what the customer is all about and what they are looking for. Get them talking and feeling positive (people love to talk about themselves). 2. Suggest a product that is tailored to them and explain benefits to customer on how the benefits would work for them personally. (features tell, benefits sell) 3. Handle and overcome objections professionally, always acknowledge their concerns and address them. Never sweep them under the carpet. 4. Ask for the business 5. Thank them for their business and then leave the customer on a personal level. 6. Follow up to make sure product is fitting their needs and set yourself up for future referral business. DH |

I knew a kid once that did that at a Honda dealership, he got paid no attention by all these salespeople. He wanted to buy a new Prelude and no one would help him. So then he came back with $28,000 in a briefcase and paid cash to the manager as no one else would give him the time of day. Could you just imagine the look on the manager's face when some 18 year old kid comes into the office drops $28,000 on his desk and says he will take the red one. LOL! DH |

DH, I feel your pain as I just bought a new car a couple of weeks ago and the time and energy required was incredible.
As you know, I spend most of my time negotiating deals which is what I love doing, but I find negotiating deals with new car dealers to be the most frustrating use of time. There has got to be a better way... Matt |

I had this happen with me a long time ago.. My wife and I wnet to the Isuzu dealkership. I wanted a Trooper. I loved them...
Well we pulled up in my little isuzu pickup and went in. Wehad heard that They had a 2 wheel Dr and a 4 wheel dr version of the trooper. We stood around for about 15 minutes, and no one said a word to us. So we asked a sales guy that walked right by us to help us. He finally cam back and we told him that we wanted a 2 wheel drive and he said they dont make them. We said ok. and then the Manager told the guy to throw us out! He even said " Throw out that asshole and his spick girl" Needless to say I almost got arrested.. So we left and went to the Toyota dealership right across the street. We bought a Land Cruiser and I went straight back over the the Isuzu dealer... I todl the guy what an idiot he had been, and then drove off.. He lost the sale of the truck 29K I paid 41 for the other truck. but I was happy. Someone gives you an attitude at a dealership go someplace else. The take the new car and show it to them...

I have the opposite problem with the BMW and the Mercedes dealer. They call me up almost once a month trying to sell me cars.
American Cars dealership are definitly the worst, most of their sales people have very low IQ.

depends on the dealership. there are very few and rare dealerships that are very laid back, we've got a couple locally like that. but the staff is generally at least friendly & helpful, and will typically acknowledge your presence.
most likely something tripped their trigger in profiling you. prequalification in talking to a customer is one thing, but profiling is something else altogether, and has probably cost those sales folk some good green. there's a fine line to be drawn between wasting your time and discarding the wrong customer (which i would say a good majority of sales people out there haven't figured out).

I dropped off my BMW today at service and went to the downstairs show room to check out the new 5-series which I was thinking of picking up when my lease runs out next year. I get in the car, play with all the options, check everything out, sit in the front, the passenger side, the back, everywhere, I'm all over the car. There is a salesman sitting at a desk literally two feet away from me, directly in front of the car, who was doing nothing half the time, doesnt make any effort to get up. What an ass.
