depends on the dealership. there are very few and rare dealerships that are very laid back, we've got a couple locally like that. but the staff is generally at least friendly & helpful, and will typically acknowledge your presence.
most likely something tripped their trigger in profiling you. prequalification in talking to a customer is one thing, but profiling is something else altogether, and has probably cost those sales folk some good green.
there's a fine line to be drawn between wasting your time and discarding the wrong customer (which i would say a good majority of sales people out there haven't figured out).
