That's when you yell at them and present yourself as the alpha male of the house. They do it cause they know they can get away with it.

Communication goes along ways. Especially in a stern voice.

Well I don't want to be an asshole and say you can't use my shit....if they start doing it too often then I'll have to give them the "Get your own shit" line..

If your using their shit like they are using yours. You've got nothing to complain about.

If you don't use their shit, then you can tell them to leave your shit alone. That's not being a asshole, when you communicate how you feel. Lay the law down with your stuff. You let them do it once, they think they can do it all the time. Lay the law down the first time instead of waiting and getting upset each time. Non of that is being a asshole, just communication.

I'm pretty much saying, don't be a wimp with your roommates. They'll get over any hurt feels of not being able to use your stuff anymore.

Well one roomie was using my cordless phone more than I was even....I did tell him to get his own....and he did

But, stuff like my camera and mp3 player, they only ask to use it once in a blue moon...so that I don't really care about....

The real problem here is the roommate idea in general.

I gave up roommates when i got a job.

But when I did have roommates, back in college, I just locked my bedroom door when i left the house. They almost never broke in and used my stuff...

So they ask you if they can use your stuff, you say yes and then get upset over it? Just say "NO" Now how hard was that? I see more and more wimpy guys each day. What's this world coming to with all the wimps out there.

I thought they were using your stuff with out asking. Or did I miss read that.

I'm still in college

I'm tight with some of my roomies though....so I don't mind too much...it's just when they start borrowing stuff too often, then I get upset and tell them to get their own..

Just be glad if they borrow some condoms that they don't bring it back when they're done.

I don't really care if someone borrows something that I'm not using. What really pisses me off is if someone takes something without telling me and then I spend about an hour looking for it before someone blurts out "Ummm, yeah Bob borrowed that last night". Waste of my time. The other thing that pisses me off if people borrow stuff and then don't give it back or give it back dirty/broken. That can drive me up the wall.

I'm the same way. It comes down to respect and consideration. I will respect other peoples stuff and if I borrow it, it's back in the same place and condition that I got it in.

I think my dad pretty much drilled that in my head when I was a kid and used to take his tools with out asking and then leave them lying around. My dad straightened me out on that pretty fast.

I doubht that would work for him. They ask, he says yes and then makes a rant about it on GFY instead of telling his roomies to stop asking him so much or just saying "NO".

It's easier to say no than putting a lock on the door anyway. Cheaper to

I used to live with a roommate.. She was cool... Except for the fact that her boyfriend thought it was his house too and would bring all his gangsta wanna be friends over to the place like 3 or 4 times a week! Me and my roommate used to share the same refrigerator, and after each time they came to our place they would eat MY food!

The next morning, all MY eggs, bread, and salad would be GONE! How fucken' ghetto can you get, eating other people's EGGS, AND BREAD, go to McDonals for fucks sakes! I would tell them REPEATEDLY NOT to eat my food, but they claimed they did not know which food was mine, and which was my roommates. I told them to ASK me, if they were not sure, but they KEPT on eating MY food time after time. I got SO ANGRY that I labeled ALL my food "Jackie's food DO NOT EAT!" and I would count every single slice of bread and single piece of food I have and write it down. They did buy me the food back they ate , but STILL, the point is that they SHOULD NOT HAVE EATEN IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. It is EXTREMELY disrespectful. I should not have to worry about people eating my food in my own house, where IIII pay half the rent and bills.

I was so pissed I told them not to use the cable tv since I was the one who paid it and it was in my name, so they could only watch channels 2-13 It's not that I'm a stingy person, but I don't like people disrespecting me. And besides, I did not like those guys being there in the first place, so of course I'm going to get angry if they eat MY food. They were so loud that the neighbours would complain all the time, and the manager even came to our door when they were too loud.

They would not dare use my stuff, there would have been a major scene. But eating my food really pissed me the fuck off. I consider that the same as stealing. They have no fucken respect for anybody. My friends NEVER ate my roommate's food, and neither did I.

I get so EXTREMELY angry when I think about it, that tears come to my eyes when I think back about it TO THIS DAY. I can't explain
why but it really gets to me. Eggs are like only a few bucks, so it's not that I'm cheap, it's just that it's MINE, so only I can eat it. I don't like people that I don't like eating MY food. It's so disrespectful. They are a bunch of fucken losers. It's not enough that they buy the food back, I want to be compensated for the TIME AND EFFORT it took me to buy the food. That is something they cannot repay!!

Also they did not just eat ONE egg, the whole carton would be gone the next morning, and not just a few slices of bread, but the whole loaf? What's the point of buying the food back, because I wanted to eat my food right when I wake up! I don't want to wait after they buy it back! It's an inconvenience to ME! Why should I be inconvenienced in my own house!

My roommate never borrowed any of my stuff tho, and vice versa, so we're cool about that. Thank GOD I don't live with a roomate anymore, IT IS HELL!

I ALWAYS say no, I'm not afraid of anybody. If it were my friends that I truly like, they can borrow anything anytime they like. But people like roommates, I have NO qualms saying no. But the food thing, shit, they didn't bother to ask, so how can I say no? I tell them EVERY DAY: " DO NOT EAT MY FOOD. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO'SE FOOD IT IS, PLEASE ASK ME", and every fucken weekend the next morning my shit is gone. They never even asked! NO RESPECT!

The only time when they don't eat it, is when i put huge labels on my food saying "DO NOT EAT". But that is a waste of MY time and effort. I should not have to do that in my own place. I want to be compensated for my time and effort. How are they going to compensate me for my time? That is a few minutes of my life I had to waste putting a fucken label on my stuff.

Again, I don't live with roommates anymore, but when I think back about it I get sooo angry that my blood just boils. I can't explain it.

You hit the nail on the head phogirl69. You sound just like me. I have no problems giving or loaning out something to somebody if they ask and there isn't a trust issue with the person. But when they take something with out asking, it's like you say phogirl69. It's disrespectful.

I've found out that some people never learned respect (and usually don't have manners either). These same people get upset when you do the same thing to them that they do to you. These people think it's a one way street and that they shouldn't be treated the same as they treat others.

Yes, a dork that I know recently borrowed my Windows XP Professional CD because his computer crashed, so then he gives my CD to some other guy. So now I gotta get it from the other guy because he is now enemies with the guy he lent my CD to.
