Americans are answering the call

...to duty. I have been watching C-Span and the Generals testifying before the House Armed Services Committee about reformation and rotation of our military forces. They have stated that recruiting for Reserve Units is 100% plus...recruiting for Active Duty Units is 100% plus and retention is around 75%.

Americans love a good fight...and are more than willing to kill those that have presented themselves as enemies of America.

What fiasco are you referring to? Surely you did not think that a Muslim nation would be turned into a Democracy overnight? Post again ten years from now about the "fiasco".

He's right. 2000+ years of backwards thinking and religious fanaticism will not change in our timetable.

Ten years is probably an optomistic outlook.

Yes...I agree...but America did turn a nation that was just as different culturally...as the Mid Eastern Muslim nations are to our culture...into a very strong Democratic government in about five years...Japan.

Excuse me King - I hate to ask, but is this what the US thinks it must do??

Why?

Ever thought of sorting out some priorities and paying the billions that are owed to the rest of the world and at least start on some kinda healthcare program and other basics in the land of the free first??

Don't worry about "democracies" until ya stabilize your own and convert it from a "rogue regime"

Attempt to change the will of an enemy or destroy them...which do you prefer? The first option is more difficult than the second option.

How do you plan to "stabilize" the US until the rest of the world catches up? I'd really love to see a coherent plan.

I have no problem with uniform healthcare - I'd love it.

Rogue regime? Well - within certain definitions, I understand that. But, with which other implementation of government would you like to swap it out? How would you "convert it"?

A "rogue regime" implies that our system of goverment has failed completely. Maybe your wording was a little strong, and maybe it was 'tongue in cheek'.

I hate to think that people really consider this a "rogue regime" when in fact, at the worst, it's a speedbump in the road.

Stupid, wake up to reality one day.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3383245.stm

Quote:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said the latest employment data suggested that at least 300,000 people had simply stopped looking for work.

US retailers did not take on extra staff to cover the Christmas rush; instead they cut 38,000 jobs.

The manufacturing sector has been shedding workers for nearly four years, and the trend continued in the December, when industry cut 26,000 posts.

Slow recovery?

Sung Won Sohn, chief economist at Wells Fargo Bank, dubbed the figures "disappointing".

He added: "Business caution is still quite substantial, preventing them from hiring people. The name of the game is productivity and to postpone hiring as long as they can."

Other experts added that the report was evidence that the economic recovery could be slower than previously expected.
So my answer still sticks.

Do you really think the individuals who serve in the armed forces think this way? Do you honestly think they do this to "make the rich richer"?

Well... no, - it don't actually work like that....

You see, this nice new country is... well, I hope you are not offended, but is a "little" immature for it's grandness.

It's not that there is any "catching up" to do really - it's more about having some ability to grow up and behave like a big person.

You see, at the moment a lot of these big people are looking on and shaking their heads in dismay and thinking this little kid is a kinda delinquent - we don't want that do we?

So... sip up that hot chocolate drink and off to bed!

You may view it as a game...I do not...and it is apparent that America does not. If the CONUS is hit in any substantial way yet again...I suspect that destruction in a massive way will be the next response. Thus far the US has been very limited in its response...to the last attack.

No, I don't think they think that way. I don't think they think at all. The armed forces doesn't require you to think. It just requires you to obey orders.

Free thinking people do not join the armed forces.

Stop trying to get out of your hole, you inferred it would take ten years. STUPID.

The US will not be there ten years and it will take more than 10 years to change Iraq.

Why do you insist on thinking that everyone wants to be "American" they might want to come to the US from poor countries to work but if you noticed a lot bring their own culture, religion and practises. Muslims in New York are stil Muslims.

Have you ever been out of the hick town you live in?

Free thinking people do not join the armed forces.
In the US...people have the choice of joining the Armed Forces...or not...freedom of choice.

Agreed. You can stay at home and stand on the corner waiting for a welfare check, work on Dads farm or go overseas and kill people.

Freedom of choice.

Do you think his Mum is going to be surprised.

Would his Mum be Pathfinders wife or Mum?

Clueless old man...I made a flat statement...you made the inferrence. I have stated in more than one post that...in my opinion...it would take at least a generation if not two...to have a truly stable Democracy.

I personally believe that the US will have a presence in Iraq for an infinite period of time. The history of the US is one of...once introducing troops into an AO...of continuing to have a military presence in the AO. Look around the world cluless. The US has a military presence in a large part of the world and has had since the Second World War.

Are you speaking from any kind of experience or simple conjecture?

I think you are uninformed.

In truth, the number one mantra in the miltary for the last 20+ years has been "safety first". This requires the ability to observe, analyze, and to act on your own decisions.

In fact, military personnel are trained to think for themselves and to adapt to unique situations and handle them appropriately.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "free thinking people".

Are you talking about people who refuse to cooperate with others? People who go to extremes to "not conform", when they are simply conforming to a different set of requirements?

Maybe you mean people who refuse to give up a little bit of their own freedom and uniqueness for the benefit of others?

It's funny how those who fancy themselves free thinkers seem to all have the same opinions.
