Another big domain sale: PETA buys Beef.com

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals may have one-upped the beef giants on this. Friday, it will take over the Web address www.beef.com, which had been for sale, to offer vegetarian news.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...1-crisis_x.htm

Recently it was listed on Great Domains for $150,000, previously listed for over $300,000. I wonder how much PETA paid?

Seems like a brilliant PR move, sure to piss off a lot of people. What do you think?

Please be aware that, as the registered, legal owner of BEEF.com, I will not be considering a negotiation on any offers that do not begin at or above $2,500,000 (US).

Isn't that a bit mis-leading? Aren't their laws to keep people from doing that kind of shit? Think about it this way: What if you were a cattle farmer? It's gonna have a hell of an impact on his business.

They tell us we can't serve porn an a domain like "cookies.com" so why is PETA better than us?

Well, you have to take into account that one farm animal can eat as much grain as 100 humans. Or that land used for grazing could be used to grow crops instead. It works out that if no one ate meat, there would be a LOT more food.

Should Persian Kitty be illegal?

Should Walmart be illegal because they don't sell walls?

What about Apple?

The only thing that is illegal, and it has not been tested in the courts yet, is trying to trick kids into visiting porn using a non-porn domain name.

Be interesting to see how they handle the site.

Personally, I don't care what people eat. But a thought crossed my mind reading this post:

If everyone quit eating beef, what the hell would happen to all the cattle?

Extinction. PETA would then want the government to set aside special "Cow Sanctuaries" where the beasts could run free. Never mind the fact that the species has been selectively bred for thousands of years for domestication.

The best way to ensure a species never goes extinct is for people to domesticate it. Cats, dogs, cows, pigs, chickens will never go extinct.
