Content Thieves

I know there is not much a webmaster can do if some members steal pix and post them to newsgroups. However, I was wondering if there is a possibility to sue websites that republish pics that were taken from newsgroups such as:

http://www.usenetbinaries.com

There must be way to nail the owners/webmasters of this fucking site!!!

I used to report all stolen content submitted to my tgp to the various affiliate programs that it was being ripped from. Some were quite thankful but alot of them didn't give a shit because the Watermaked pics equals free advertising.

faxxaff,

I think you can't blame the owners/webmasters of these sites for anything. They just offering a service, it's the users that abuse the services and it's quite impossible for parties offering such services to scan all the content.

The effort you have to put in to track down stealing users is a waste of time in my opinion. And I believe the best thing is to see content stealing as a 'compliment', just be sure that your content contains your urls and it even can be free advertisement ;)

There might be some options to make contenttheft harder (or easier to track down the guilty members), but I have to look a little more into the subject to see if it's an option to use in a real life production environment.

If someone's interested in this, I'll put some time into it.

Public domain includes all creative works not protected by copyright. After a certain amount of time copyrights expire. For more on this check out http://www.unc.edu/~unclng/public-d.htm
