Anyone considering leaving the industry?

I must admit that I'm giving it some serious thought. Although the money is good and relatively easy, it is starting to become more and more like a real job. And if there's one thing I don't want it's spending most of my life just sitting behind the pc.

Aside from that, I have the feeling that the indsutry will change for the worse in the next few years. Even more saturation, more problems and more risks is something I'm not really looking forward to.

We'll all leave at some point. Death, retire, forced out due to industry problems, or just get fed up and leave.

Ofcourse making money using the net is still possible. And it will probably stay that way. Still, the money isn't as ridiculously easy as it was before.

I'm not into "surviving", especially not when it comes to porn. I can think of many better things to do with my life than build a successful porn company

you said it man.

I have capped certains thing I have done in this industry, will continue some projects and things but am not pushing further to go any deeper on some... and have been putting my ideas and creativity into a much more profitable and FUN thing that has NOTHING to do with porn.

Feels good to be able to 'talk to friends and family' about what Im doing hahaha

but the trick is to keep revenue coming in from adult as well while maintaining things that are more rewarding.

People need to realize, sitting around submitting galleries doesnt really make you 'part of an industry.'

As you, there are a few other things I can picture myself doing, making more money in mainstream, and having more fun instead of sitting behing a monitor designing porn pages.

I am with you on this one Punkworld.

I don't worry at all.

As long as people will buy goods and services online i'll have a market to deal with. I have been looking to do a 2nd business offline for some time now, but taking the decision on what to do is not that easy as it sounds. I'm way more insecure there because I'm not familiar with the fields.

My girl has gotten back into mainstream bigtime, and I will say this, finding processors and banking, and just everything overall is EASIER in mainstream.

IN a couple of weeks, she has gone from battling visa, and verotel crap to looking for nationwide distributors and having MUCH more success with just business in general.

Luckily we both had been in business online BEFORE adult, but admittedly the money in adult was great, but after awhile there comes a time to choose... do I want to sit in this business for more years?

I really dont, I have no desire to, I want to make money, design things, create pages and market ideas and products, whether its adult or not I have been making money online since before I was in adult and continue to do so.

This industry is much mroe of a headache than maionstream and once you know how to make money on both adult and non-adult, new doors are open.

sorry if im rambling, just been real positive lately about certain changes and things I have made, and things are looking very good.

your thread is exactly whats been going on in my head. In no way am I jumping out of adult, But I assure you lately I have been aligning up things that have nothing to do with adult, and finding a processor and chargrebacks are none of my problems...

8 years so you mean you were in this BEFORE internet adult exlposion?

Understandable.

But Ive yet to really see someone pop in this internet game, after a couple years and retire.

People who were here in the beginning and of course those who were in this BEFORE the internet rush have a foot in the door.

This industry really has turned into a full time job. When I ran sites back in 1998 it was so much easier. I ran sites from August 1997 to 2000. Then I burnt out, I couldn't handle this business it really is a life sucking business if your personal life isn't the best at the time. I got back in 1 year ago and am loving it. So much potential for new ideas and growth, after 1 year i'm still fired up to take my business to the next level and we have everything setup to do it now.

It is hard not being able to share things you've done with friends, its a hard industry to stay motivated in I have found. Its not like you can be proud of job when you've just spent the day taking 500 movie screenshots of young girls gagging on big dicks that are being rammed down their throats. share that with your friends and watch the look on their face

Why is everyone here so obsessed with money? Money may be a necessity in life, but as a goal it's pretty much worthless.

All you really have in life is a very limited amount of time. If you're gonna spend that time on things you don't love to do, what's the point?

Because there are sooooooo many things in life that you need to have money to enjoy. So if you can make enough to have the bankroll you need, then you can really enjoy anything at all you want to.

Here's the number one axiom of business success:

SEX SELLS

Take two cars, same make and model. Put out duplicate advertisements one with only the car, one with the car and a gorgeous supermodel scantilly clad...

WHICH AD WOULD GET YOUR ATTENTION???

Take out a vacation advertisement. Same place for both ads. The first just the skyline of the beautiful beach. The second the same beach with big boobed chicks running around.

WHAT WOULD GET YOUR ATTENTION???

They could shut down all the porn sites from here to Mars and what would take their place is standard advertising with bikini clad women.

The only way I would step out of the industry is to not have website and just provide content alone like a monthly subscription that webmasters could join to get new updates. I've thought about it and tested it. Makes life easier for me.

I don't know about you, but the things I enjoy doing require money. Lots of it. That's why money is important to me. And it's not only about "wants", but also "needs". Money provides security. I've been "poor". It wasn't fun. I'd prefer to stay away from that.

First if you are young in the real world you are not going to make the money you make in adult. Also if you are ashamed of what you do find something else to do. If it's becoming a real job, well maybe that means you are growing up. The real world is a cold cold place. Try selling shit on the mainstream web much harder to make the same money you are making now. There is no traffic trading in the mainstream world. I ran traffic for a mainstream dotcom , the only people wanted to hear was how big of a check are you going to write. My wife is young and gets like that, young people have little memory of working in the real world. Go do it you will be running back lol. Porn is one of the few things its hard not to make money with. I speak from 27 yrs of working experience.

my options are either..

a) go work at a regular 9-5 job for 1/3 of what i make now, and have creditors constantly on my back.

or

b) work a few hrs/day,make shitloads of money,do what i want when i want.

Not everything is about "selling stuff". If I were to leave this biz, I'd probably pursue a career in academics.
Only reason I got into this biz is because I was intrigued by computers and programming, and I liked watching naked chicks with big tits. It isn't my goal in life to spend the rest of my days behind the computer though.

I agree... things have been tight for me before too and I can wholeheartedly say that poverty has no redeeming features except that it makes you grateful for what you have.

The value I see in this biz is that, for me at least, it's a chance to make more money doing something fun and challenging than I could in the real world with my skill set. I don't want to be fantastically rich, but I do plan on making enough from this biz that I will have a healthy passive income for life. The things I am really passionate about wouldn't necessarily make me any money but you do need a certain amount of money to have freedom and independence in a capitalist society.

But I do think that unless you actually want to be in the porn biz (ie you are into porn, not just money), then your aim has to be to make as much as you can right now and be ready to leave if the environment changes.

Aside from that, I have the feeling that the indsutry will change for the worse in the next few years. Even more saturation, more problems and more risks is something I'm not really looking forward to.
If you are talking about the adult industry...I left some time ago.

So what you expect everything for free, of course it's a real job! The more money you want to make, the more time you work! Just like the more money you make, the more money you spend!

What so you'd rather go to another job, not make as much and work less?

Well said both of you. Money may not buy happiness, but I haven't found anything else that will cover house payments, bills, groceries, theater tickets, wine, sushi, movies, clothing, vacations...

I was never cut out for the work-a-day world. I was almost 30 before I even know what I wanted to do when I "grew up"...'cause they hadn't invented it yet. I love building websites.

I'm not a good enough designer to do quick work but given time and motivation I can do good stuff, so it suits me well to work for myself. I can't imagine working for anyone else, unless it were someone like my last boss, who let me show up when I wanted and do what I wanted and paid me about twice what I was worth. Unfortunately, they had him killed.

So I guess I'm here for the long-term...

No offense, but if spending your life in front of the monitor is the problem maybe you should cut back on non-business internet use. How much time do those 6000 posts represent?? How much of it business related?
