Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.

Yeah, don't we all wish.

Your best bet is setting your TTL's low.

When moving servers you can have almost instant propogation.

Just reduce the TTL (time to live) of the domain to say 30 mins or even less a few days before the move. Then move the server and change your dns entries to reflect your new A records. The change will be seen by the rest of the net in less than an hour.

Just pop your TTL to normal a few days after the move to be nice to the DNS system.

Genius - thank you! Why did nobody suggest this to me before?

Use a third party dns service where you can change the IPs. The nameservers stay the same all the time.

Yes but the TTL is still probably a day or more and the dns changes to a new server IP will still take 24 - 48 hours to propogate.

The only way to decrease propogation time is to reduce your TTL a few days before making changes if you want almost instant propogation.

Use a 15 minute DNS TTL - and leave it that way forever.

The Internet can afford each server hitting a DNS lookup once every 15 minutes, believe me.

I keep spare servers at different isps rsynched hourly and ready to go - and use third party DNS, so I am always ready in case my isp fucks me like everybody else has.

Are you using a particular program for rsynch'ing between servers or are you just using the rsynch command from a ssh command line?

Just rsync from a n hourly cron job. You have to install a key so it won't ask for a password, works like a charm.

why not just have the home page at your old site redirect the page to the new IP while it propogates? That's what I always do and it works great

Yeah, that works fine if your old isp is up and running. But we've all heard enough horror stories to convince me I need 2 of every service or vendor I use; just like to sleep well.
