I have never been big on search engine optimization (SEO), because usually it takes a lot of time or a lot of money. But, after seeing how easy it was to get ranked in all of the major search engines with a well-designed site, SEO is going to be a big part of my efforts from now on. (I'll admit, it still took months to get there but it was free!)

It seems, while building my custom web browsers, that creating websites for them optimizes their ranking in just about every search engine out there. This is done because they focus on lots of good "not-heavily-used" keywords.

The only step now is to just promote the keywords and everyone will automatically think of my website when they think of those words.

Anybody else have any other non-spamming SEO techniques?

I'm not sure what you are talking about with "custom web browsers" can you give us some examples?

Ordinarily, I would be glad to give out the URL. But, a hard lesson learned last year is that Google gives HUGE weight to message boards (especially porn ones). Without realizing the consequences, investors saw my website associated with loads of hardcore stuff. Needless to say, it caused a lot of grief.

But...

a customized web browser fulfills a specific purpose.

There is an image editor web browser that loads images from a web page and lets you manipulate them (apply effects, filters, blending, etc).

There is a data entry web browser that lets you create or download web page content, edit it, and save it.

There is a data viewer web browser that creates instant thumbnails, tooltips, sorting, and pasting of web page content.

These are just a few examples of customized web browsers.

ummmm right, so you are going to try to educate people to use your new keywords instead of the ones that they would normally?

perhaps I totally misunderstood what you were saying, though that sounds like one of the shittier ways to get people to your website.

Yeah thought the same, it's very costly to educate customers like that

Marketing 101. If you come out with a new product, you want to control the perception around that product. One way is by creating a new name.

What was a Coca-cola before 1899?
What was a Lexus before 1990?
Was was an Escalade before 1999?

Sometimes it is better to just come up with your own name instead of trying to use a name that is already familiar and that already has a specific perception about it.

What was a Microsoft before 1975?
What was a Compaq before 1983?

It is all a question of price points. Trying to take control of keywords everyone already knows about can be just as expensive as creating your own and promoting them. At least when you create your own, you have complete control over their perception.
