Stupid Newbie Question

I am a newbie here (I don't even have a website yet!)

I don't remember how I stumbled on this buisness, but I know that this is the buisness I want to be in.
Last few months have been hard for me. I have a day job that hardly pays my bills.
Now my prayers are answered. An old aunt of mine who is in an old peoples home, has given me $30,000. Yes thirty thousand dollars.

To all you established webmasters out there, how would you spend this money if you were starting out?

I would NOT pour that money into the adult biz until you've ran a few tgp's link lists and done some gallery and freesite building, that way you'll know enough about teh biz to make a somewhat educated decision with that money. But in all seriousness, I'd just pour it into savings bonds and such

Ok hope you enjoyed a little of that 30k before it's all pissed away. Just because you may like porn or whatever doesn't mean you're gonna have the know how or even brains to turn it in to a profit. I do wish you luck but this is bad time for newbies. It's not like it was in 97-98 when it was easy to get in the door. Oh and watch out for scammers. Put it down on a house, move into the house and stop paying near $1000 in rent; instead pay about $500 in mortgage payments.

You'll save money, save taxes on the mortgage interest, and your property value is the safest thing to have money in. They are NOT making any more land.

Putting it into the adult biz is just pissing it away. The folks here are not trying to deter you to lessen the competition, they've BEEN THERE.

If you put this money into the adult biz, you'll be literally putting a bullet through your skull inside of 8 months.

I am sure there is money to be made in this industry. Even for a newbie like me. It's a matter of choosing the right niche
But my question was really, how would you use this money to kick start your buisness? Would you buy traffic etc?

I say set aside $10K for the business, use the other $20K in real estate, dont put all of your eggs in one basket.

As for the porn business why dont you just start out as if you had no money, right now it seems your knowledge of the business is 0. So why not play the game like a beginner, get a small hosting package for $20/mo, build some galleries, do some submissions, try your luck in creating a TGP, then when you have some sense of where what goes I think you will easier answer your own question.

Just because you have the funds, doesnt mean you should jump head first into this without knowing even the simple basics.

By your own admition you don't even have a site and you don't even know how you "stumbled" on this business. So how do you know there is money to be made? Reading someones sigs that says something like, "I make (insert some monetary amount here) a day with these guys so clcik my link"?

I bring this up because you seem to know little to nothing about the business at all including how you "stumbled" on it. Yes there is money to be made, but first there is a lot of expereince, knowledge and networking involved that can't be replaced by some inheratence from a dead aunt.

If you do not have a college education, INVEST IN YOURSELF FIRST. We aren't lying to you when we say that right now is not the time to get in on the adult business. It's not a get rich quick thing anymore. It's hours and hours of hard work and sacrifice to even begin to make your money.

If you MUST learn the hard way, then I suggest you take $5k and use it for this. The other $25k needs to be invested in some mutual funds, something that will grow steadily. You might even consider a Roth IRA or some such.

You think that all this money that's being flaunted was made just from internet porn. You're wrong. Most of us have made money off investments over time. The initial money put into the investments could very well have been made off of porn.

Invest in yourself first. Get an education. If you're seriously wanting to get in on this biz, then start with a degree in internet marketing. That in itself is priceless.

If you're still not convinced, then I'll sell you a domain, the design, and 100k of traffic for your $30k, (actually, I'll do it for half that, so that you have $15k left over to put aside in case you fall on your face), and we'll see if you do well with it.

Totally agree with this. If you really want to be this stubborn, why post the question here? Seems like you've already made up your mind to blow your aunt's money as fast as you can.
If that is your intention, go to the drug store, buy 2 packs of cigarettes and light each cigarette with a crisp $ 1,000.00 bill, that'll do it just as fast.
Think about it, we are not trying to discourage you to get into this business, but don't blow the money your aunt left you, and who knows at what expense to herself. You think that was why she left you the money or to enable you to do something good for yourself and your future?

THIS is what you might consider before anything else. Get yourself an education. Trust me, it's worth the time and money spent. Investing in yourself is the best way to get started anywhere.

Listen to these people do not blow 30k. You might as well walk into a casino and put 30k down on red and walk out. What I would do is put 25k away for you to save and earn money one 5% funding. Take the other 5k and get yourself a few domains and try differn't markets.....You can do all this for very cheap once you have a understanding take the half of the 5k you have left and try differn't markteting strategy once you find something you good with take the rest of the 5k and put it into that. This is a win win situation. You will have 25k making 5% sitting away. You will be doing something you say is your calling and you will have experience under your belt for better decision making.......

Sounds to me like your decision is not based on money. You like the business.

If you really like this business learn about it and do NOT wash money in to fill in for the things you do not know.

Take the time to understand what the adult net biz about, take time to understand the folks that are in it.

Most importantly take the time to teach yourself and educate yourself. Most importantly get some Business education (degree). It is more flexible in the long run no matter what you do in the future.

Seriously. The trick to Adult Internet is spending next to no money to make money. IN my opinion there are still such untapped grounds in the industry to make awesome profits for nearly no costs...

i agree with what has been said, but if you MUST try your hand use just a little bit of money and try a couple TGP's or other types of sites that demand that you learn the ropes by knowing a little of everything:

traffic, bandwidth, programming, networking, design, etc.

Work it with ONLY the money you initially put into it, For 3-5k that should allow you to buy all the scripts, traffic and bandwidth you will need to give it a real "college try" pardon the pun for a few months of running a real traffic generating tgp.

If you can stand the long hours, and often paltry retuns on your money then continue forth, but if (as i suspect most newbies do) that this isnt the biz for you do what others have recommended and go to school, or invest in somthing tangible like real estate.

But seriously, ... someone before had mentioned get in this game as if you had no money. That's the best advice I could give you. You wanna be in it? Fine... but if you learn how to profit from a small budget, then having $30k will help you.

Lot's of people I know built their "porn empires" starting out doing galleries, free sites, whatever. Then they just moved up the chain. You can't buy success with $30k cause if you could trust me, there'd be a lot more people in this business. Success comes with knowledge, which comes from failure, which if you were smart you'd do for free instead of failing with money.

Also, if you really MUST be in this bizz ...

- Buy 1000$ worth of content from Content blow out now, they have a great deal

- Invest 400$ in a trade script (tm3)

- Buy a TGP script, 100$ or less.


Start a few free sites and a tgp and see how you do with those. If you can make a little money with it, invest another 500$ in advertising on per click ads with some people.

If you can make a little extra with that, reconsider and maybe continue. If you won't, you have 28.000$ left and can sell off the stuff you bought earlier for at least 50% of what you paid for it.

not always true. I live in a $500k house with no mortgage. Costs $1.1k per month to run the house with heat, electric, water, gas, etc.

thats not counting repairs, furniture, carpet, paint, regular maintenance.

It easily costs $1.5k - $2k to run this house and we dont have a mortgage at all.

only 3 people living here.
