Yamaha V-Max

Im a big motorcycle fan. I've been riding a bike longer than I have been driving a car.

The bike I have right now is not what I am looking for. I bought it last year because the one I had before that was just too weak(450cc).

I dont like crotch rockets, and Im not a huge fan of "Harley" type.

What I really would like is a Yamaha V-Max. I love the very basic design of that bike. And the raw power it puts down.

Anyone ever owned one? Anyone selling a old one?
Anybody has any bad feedback on them?

(I also like the BMW sport touring. but a tad too expensive for something I can only use 4-6 months a year)

My only complaint about the VMAX is that it hasn't changed at all in like 10 years. Seriously. No updates as technology has improved. There is a constant rumor that they are redesigning it, but I haven't seen anything yet. I think that we fall into the same category when it come to bikes. I like a straight up ride, with some sport. I don't like the hunch of a sport bike, or the lay back of a hog. I rode a bmw r1100rt for a while. But it was just freaking huge. But the handling was great, I could cut a twisty road at high speeds, but it was also so comfortable that I could ride for 10 hours a day. When I decided to get a new bike I wanted something a little sportier, but still comfortable.
I decided on the BMW r1150r. But I' still saving. They aren't cheap.

I've heared that the vmax becomes very unstable with higher speed. The reasons are the thick back tire and the frame. The engine is too strong for that bike. You could invest something and make the bike stable, but with the money you could buy a good used BMW.

The Vmax has not been changed much since 1985.
This is awesome - name another vehicle that has lasted this long.
Yamaha still sells every single Vmax that is produced.

The Vmax will absolutely spank anything in the 1/8 mile.
The 1/4 mile brings on some wind resistance issues (100mph+)
Bikes like the Suzuki Hayabusa will slice through the wind and beat you in the 1/4 mile.

The Vmax does handle fine, but it is heavy.
Lots of people compare it to a light weight sports bike.
It is more like a cruiser that sports bikes try to catch.

My bike will go from 0 to 150+ with no handling problems.

My bike has NEVER lost a stoplight race.
If you care to try, we ride almost every day in Tampa!
"Those without respect, must be taught..."

My bike does have a few modifications.
It breathes through 4 K&N air filters
Below 3000rpm it draws through one carb per cylinder.
Above 3000rpm it draws through two carbs per cylinder.
(Stock bikes have the Vboost set at 6000 rpm)
This gives you low end torque and high end HP.

My Italian exhaust makes the bike sound like an outlaw V8!

For anyone that loves adrenaline - you gotta try a Vmax at least once in your life. No car will ever give you tunnel vision from the acceleration!

When the Vmax came out in 1985 they called it a "Muscle Bike" and compared it to the Cobra. They put them head to head and of course the Vmax was faster in every test.

When Dirty D is not slinging porn - he is riding!

The Tomahowk is a cool design... but it ends there.
It is nice to be able to turn when you need - lol
Plus, I actually own a Vmax and you can too!

You guys remember the Boss Hawg with the Chevy Corvette 350 in them? It really really pisses those guys off to be spanked by a 1200cc 4 Cylinder bike that was designed in 1985... Yes, even in a straight line.

Both of the above bikes sound awesome on paper.
Specifications don't win races.

The Tomahawk is a cool idea....but it's not really a bike since it has 4 wheels and it can barely turn.

bikes are all about the lean....

This is a concept if i am not mistaken...it will never reach production...it is merely a tool to get the dodge name in the industry magazines...if this thing hits the streets Amp I will buy dinner

The V=Max is an inexpensive sleeper....I stand by my original statement....

lol.... doesn't matter to me... I gave up my bike deathwish 13 years ago. Never cared much for insane speed on a bike anyway. Sold my Harley in '92 and been bike free ever since.

Wet bikes now are another story....
