The problem is that someone may take this guy seriously and think that he is truly representative of our industry as a whole, when in fact, he has NOTHING TO DO with our industry. He runs a horrible site with "facts" that are totally wrong, material that is supposed to be for adults, or so he claims, and he advertises it on forums that children frequent. See for yourself www.horseforums.com. He doesn't see what he does as wrong, but the second people start taking this asshole seriously, he's gaining legitimacy, and that's something he has neither earned, nor does he EVER deserve. It goes even FAR deeper than that, but the police will deal with that when the time comes, as he is currently under investigation from SEVERAL agencies that I'm personally aware of.

I just looked at his site a few minutes ago. Meta tags in order...registered with RSAC...I personally did not even see anything that is XXX rated on his site. Where in lies "a very real threat" and to whom? What is it that I am missing?

In theory ! But - unless you are a master programmer you will most likely get ripped off.

How do they track these commissions due? Well its built into the referring URL. Usually an affiliate, with any affiliate program, is given a unique URL/website address. Usually that address has a query string portion to it. Meaning, there is a question mark and then some type of database field added to an Internet address. For example; in the URL
http://www.ripmeoffHELMY.com?id=1234&rid=5678
the value 1234 is stored in the variable ID and the value of 5678 is stored in the variable RID. In this example, ID means your affiliate number and RID means the Referring IDentification number of who sent you to get your original ID.

Now if those ID numbers do not follow the surfer as they tour the http://www.ripmeoffHELMY.com website then there is a problem. For example; if from the homepage you click on TOUR and the first page of that tour is "tour_page1.html" then for proper tracking the URL should be
http://www.ripmeoffHELMY.com/tour_pa...=1234&rid=5678

unless they use a cookie which stores those values in your web browser cache directory. Now - thanks to Microsoft and their constant flip-flopping on how cookies should be written and read - cookies can be very tricky. Basically, and without notice - Microsoft instantly changed how cookies are written and read in their browsers. For example; in MSIE 5.x browsers on WinDOZE 98 you have to shut down all browsers and reboot the computer to force all cookies to be written to the hard drive where you can see them.

I clearly understand the sensitivity to the issue of CP. As I have said in words and in actions, I am involved in the fight to stop CP.

I've dealt with Sexed on several boards even before he hit GFY. I'm sick of his bs.

And since when did I say that you are supporting CP? MY statement was a simple warning about the guy.. I don't want anyone to take him seriously.. Why? because he's a threat to our industry. No, I certainly never implied that. However from what I understand Sexed told FTP that he would stop posting if he asked him to. I believe this thread was an attempt at making him be quiet
