Soldiers?s Glowing Accounts of Success in Iraq Success Were Written by Commander

By Martha Raddatz

Oct. 13 ? The letters appeared in roughly 12 newspapers across the country. From Massachusetts to California, and many places in between, family members and local newspapers received letters from soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the 503rd Infantry Regiment detailing their successes in northern Iraq.

Each letter was signed by a different soldier, but the words were identical:

"Kirkuk is a hot and dusty city of just over a million people. The majority of the city has welcomed our presence with open arms. After nearly five months here, the people still come running from their homes, into the 110-degree heat, waving to us as our troops drive by on daily patrols of the city. Children smile and run up to shake hands and in their broken English shouting, "Thank you, Mister."
Amy Connell, of Sharon, Mass., knew as soon as she received the letter from her son Adam that he did not write it. "He's 20 years old and I don't think his language or his writing ability would have entailed that kind of description," she said.

Wrong. According to further reports in the Washington Post, most soliders did not even know their names were attached to any letters.

"Someone" simply sent letters to newspapers all across the US under the names of various soldiers serving in Iraq. Propaganda at its finest - until someone spots it as propaganda. Heh.

These letters are actually reminiscent of old-style Nazi propaganda. Germans were shown hundreds of newsreels and newspaper articles depicting the French/Austrians/Dutch etc. welcoming German troops with open arms. The vast majority of the newsreels always had a shot of a smiling child handing flowers to the conquering German troops.

As an interesting anecdote, when the OSS (forerunner of the CIA) stormed Berlin in advance of Russian troops, they spirited away Germany's greatest rocket scientists AND Nazi propaganda experets, all of whom went on to work for the US government (NASA, OSS, NSA etc.). We hear often about the former group (rocket scientists) but US history and media is ominously silent about the latter group (propaganda experts).

The information warfare you see today by the US is just the legacy of Josef Goebells and his band of merry tricksters.

I am neither a conspiracy theorist nor do I sport any anti-US sentiments. I am 100% pro US, at least in regards to the spirit of the US consitution and bill of rights. I am against lies, deceit or death-for-profit in any guise.

As for the media, you are also incorrect in describing my viewpoint. My actual viewpoint is simply as follows:

- The major US news media is a credible source of information
- The major US news media is a propaganda arm of the US intelligence services

The two points above are NOT mutually exclusive. Dig deeper. Think more.

At the top of this information "pyamid" is Lt. Col. Dominic Caraccilo, who has stated that he is the one that initiated the idea of the letter...which is totally within his authority to do so. Battalion and Regimental Commanders have a great deal of autonomous authority within their commands...operational and otherwise. The buck stops with him and he did nothing wrong...although with the heat that has been brought down upon him by the media he will be told not to initiate any more letters. The Wontons and Webbies will always choose to believe differently as it fits their agenda to do so.

I have been a student of military history...strategy...and warfare since I have been old enough to read and my knowledge in this area is extensive.

The Battalion Commander had the authority to intitiate the letter and initiate it for the reasons he provided and a

to him. I was an E-7 Plt Sgt...and if the letter had been handed down to me for my men to sign...sign they would have. I myself could have initiated the letter and had my men sign the letter.

Actually, I think you should research a little more. US infantry held most of berlin for hours before the russians arrived, and found VERY few SS officers. Most of the rocketry scientists were housed in a secret city, and were found after one of them went out and LOOKED for US troops. At first, they didn't beleive him even.

VERY few SS officers holding any rank at all survived the purge. You think hitler would leave people around the knew his secrets? The man was nuts, not stupid.
