**** Fake Letters from Iraq Written By US Propaganda Central!! ****

From ABC News:

Letters Home
Soldiers?s Glowing Accounts of Success in Iraq Success Were Written by Commander

By Martha Raddatz

Oct. 13 ? The letters appeared in roughly 12 newspapers across the country. From Massachusetts to California, and many places in between, family members and local newspapers received letters from soldiers of the 2nd Battalion of the 503rd Infantry Regiment detailing their successes in northern Iraq.

Each letter was signed by a different soldier, but the words were identical:

"Kirkuk is a hot and dusty city of just over a million people. The majority of the city has welcomed our presence with open arms. After nearly five months here, the people still come running from their homes, into the 110-degree heat, waving to us as our troops drive by on daily patrols of the city. Children smile and run up to shake hands and in their broken English shouting, "Thank you, Mister."
Amy Connell, of Sharon, Mass., knew as soon as she received the letter from her son Adam that he did not write it. "He's 20 years old and I don't think his language or his writing ability would have entailed that kind of description," she said.

When this CIA sponsored propaganda event was found out, it's pretty funny how the military takes the fall:

"Caraccilo said he circulated the form letter to his soldiers to give them "an opportunity to let their respective hometowns know what they are accomplishing here in Kirkuk. As you might expect, they are working at an extremely fast pace and getting the good news back home is not always easy. We thought it would be a good idea to encapsulate what we as a battalion have accomplished since arriving Iraq and share that pride with people back home."

Yeah righht.

Wrong. According to further reports in the Washington Post, most soliders did not even know their names were attached to any letters.

"Someone" simply sent letters to newspapers all across the US under the names of various soldiers serving in Iraq. Propaganda at its finest - until someone spots it as propaganda. Heh.

Rinaldo 10-14-2003 04:22 PM

JSYK the Military used to give us prewritten statesments all the time to send home to our families. Some saying shit I would never say.

If they tell you to write something or sign something its a direct order... you have to do it... doesnt mean you agree... just sign it and get it over with,

12clicks 10-14-2003 04:23 PM

can someone pretend to care so this thread doesn't have to clutter the board?

You win the prize...this applies particularly to new recruits...but can be applied and has been applied to non recruits. But the Wontons and Webbys of the world prefer to believe otherwise...as it fits into their agenda.

And who do you think gives orders to the commanders who it turn give orders to the troops to sign these letters? Who?

I'll tell you who - top brass at the Pentagon. And where does the Pentagon takes its propaganda orders from? From the CIA, that's who!

At the top of the information warfare pyramid sits the CIA.

Sometimes I wonder if ya know the difference between a fraud and a truth... either this is a fraud, yet again, or a truth.

It appears it is not a truth.

Angenda's don't actually come into the issue. But if there is one, and this is in fact another US fraud, just add it to the pile and make your own judgement - tho I know what that may be - faultness as ususal and in a state of denial.

Screw this.. tis just too funny!! I'm gonna find out from someone in Iraq if this is anyplace near the truth. I'll bump this thread when I get info and eat shit if it is correct.

These letters are actually reminiscent of old-style Nazi propaganda. Germans were shown hundreds of newsreels and newspaper articles depicting the French/Austrians/Dutch etc. welcoming German troops with open arms. The vast majority of the newsreels always had a shot of a smiling child handing flowers to the conquering German troops.

As an interesting anecdote, when the OSS (forerunner of the CIA) stormed Berlin in advance of Russian troops, they spirited away Germany's greatest rocket scientists AND Nazi propaganda experets, all of whom went on to work for the US government (NASA, OSS, NSA etc.). We hear often about the former group (rocket scientists) but US history and media is ominously silent about the latter group (propaganda experts).

The information warfare you see today by the US is just the legacy of Josef Goebells and his band of merry tricksters.

Adorno 10-14-2003 05:03 PM

It is such a monumental slap to the face that none of the neocons on here can rationalize it. There is no acceptable argument for it other than straight up bullshit propaganda meant to bolster support for a failing policy.

If the shoe was on the other foot all these halfwits would be singing a different tune.

:thumbsup Yep.. hardly an ounce of oringinality since then!

I liked the wording:

"After nearly five months here, the people still come running from their homes ..."

Definately a positive angle!! Like this "still" word! Suggesting all along that the people have welcomed them with open arms for five months and running out of their homes to say "Hi! Mr Occupier! Welcome to Iraq!" and hugs and kisses all round! :1orglaugh

Rumsfeld could not have written it better - literally a mirror of his verbal nonsense!

You're totally nieve if you don't realize all the governments of the world do the same thing.

Dear Mr. retard.
Why don't you take your paranoid ass somewhere else where they might give a fuck about your twisted thoughts?
You remind me of that guy from Conspiracy Theory, he was right about something but his life sucked.
Point is you spend your whole day trying to think of or find new stuff to blur you scrambled mind even more while we make money and do fun things.
Get a life.

BigFish 10-14-2003 05:43 PM

Funny how conspiracy theorists and anti-U.S. people always and always squawk at U.S. news organizations and how they're brainwashing everyone. As evidenced by this post, among others, they're the ones who sit there and read CNN and ABCNews all day trying to theorize and twist big media assumptions around just so they can "try" to prove their anti-U.S. points. One minute ABCNews works for the U.S. government as its propaganda machine and the next minute they're credible sources of information, full of facts, that you can quote. Make up your mind!! (or obtain a mind if possible)

I realize that. I am just doing my part to get others to realize that too.

Unfortunately, there are many sheep in America who think their country is above all this propaganda business, that their government and military only tell the truth. Such notions are both dangerous and naive and will lead to the destruction of western civilization. Wonton is here to help save the industrialized world as we know it.

I see that your eyes are being slowly opened to the illusory world that you inhabit. Yet like most "newborns" you are feeling disturbed and fearful as the familiar begins to loose focus and the unkown swings into view.

Don't worry. Wonton will guide you to truth. Wonton will guide you to a better world.

I am neither a conspiracy theorist nor do I sport any anti-US sentiments. I am 100% pro US, at least in regards to the spirit of the US consitution and bill of rights. I am against lies, deceit or death-for-profit in any guise.

As for the media, you are also incorrect in describing my viewpoint. My actual viewpoint is simply as follows:

- The major US news media is a credible source of information
- The major US news media is a propaganda arm of the US intelligence services

The two points above are NOT mutually exclusive. Dig deeper. Think more.

Wonton has spoken.

At the top of this information "pyamid" is Lt. Col. Dominic Caraccilo, who has stated that he is the one that initiated the idea of the letter...which is totally within his authority to do so. Battalion and Regimental Commanders have a great deal of autonomous authority within their commands...operational and otherwise. The buck stops with him and he did nothing wrong...although with the heat that has been brought down upon him by the media he will be told not to initiate any more letters. The Wontons and Webbies will always choose to believe differently as it fits their agenda to do so.

Right...at the top of the psychological warfare apparatus sits a lowly Lt. colonel. Get real. Propaganda is orchestrated from the top down, from the highest level to the lowest - always has and always will be.

I suggest you pick up a few books on military history and military strategy. Obviously your stint in the services has given you a "know-it-all" delusion based on a very narrow window of activity that you personally witnessed. There is much more to understanding something than mere personal first-hand observation of a narrow slice of that something. To understand anything, one must do research and lots of it.

Start with books on information warfare that pay special attention to Goebbels, his laws of propaganda and the transfer of Nazi specialists into the US military appartus post WWII.

I have been a student of military history...strategy...and warfare since I have been old enough to read and my knowledge in this area is extensive.

The Battalion Commander had the authority to intitiate the letter and initiate it for the reasons he provided and a :thumbsup to him. I was an E-7 Plt Sgt...and if the letter had been handed down to me for my men to sign...sign they would have. I myself could have initiated the letter and had my men sign the letter.

"psychological warfare"...

Actually, I think you should research a little more. US infantry held most of berlin for hours before the russians arrived, and found VERY few SS officers. Most of the rocketry scientists were housed in a secret city, and were found after one of them went out and LOOKED for US troops. At first, they didn't beleive him even.

VERY few SS officers holding any rank at all survived the purge. You think hitler would leave people around the knew his secrets? The man was nuts, not stupid.
