I entered some chatrooms as "porn webmaster"...
Many women ( about 20-23 years old ) ignored me...
But some actually started a conversation...
We chatted about generall things ( like studies ) and my replies showed that I am actually an "intelligent and sensible" person... they told me that

but the nickname indicated totally the opposite.

That only confirms once again that if you're looking only for pussy, you can go to the disco, spend lots of cash on drinks .. and tell the girl that you work in porn etc...

But if you want some serious relationship, you'd better hide it at the beginning.

That's TOTALLY WRONG! Honesty is the best policy.. A woman will have a LOT less respect for you if you tell her some fluff story at first and then the truth later. How is that establishing a precident for honesty in a relationship? Either she should accept what you do right off the bat, or it's time to move on.

sometimes it's better to let sleeping dogs lie for a while.... if someone gets to know you for YOU first, versus knowing you for what you DO, it often is much less of a shock.

The only people outside of the industry I tell straight up front that I'm a pornographer are people I could care less if I ever see them again or people I know without a doubt will have no problems with it whatsoever.

I'm not saying anyone should try to pull off some fluff story, but there's ways to explain what you do without actually saying it.

Sometimes tact is still required. This goes for prospective relationships both romantic and casual. If I'm meeting some friends of some friends, I am not going to blurt out "Hey, I'm in porn!"..... it turns people off, and puts your friends in an uncomfortable position whether they know about it beforehand or not.

100% honesty up front is not always the best policy. Situations and people vary.

it's an interesting predicament. the friends of mine that need to know know. Others don't know, because it would be something of pure gossip value.

However, what I have found is this - people react differently, according to their intelligence. I hang around quite a few tango-dancing passive-earning honor / phd graducates / lawyers (only girls), and they thing me selling porn is a great laugh

Alternatively, a girl my age I go to college with, lovely girl, but sadly dense; we'd known each other for a year or so and were good friends, she found out and stopped talking to me for 2 months.

Most intelligent people realise a) you're in it for the bottom line, and b) your room isn't full of underage tortured girls performing scat on demand.

Well, you seem a good person

But you must agree that some ppl are f.e very religious.
For them you working in porn is not something they desire.
At the beginning, the other person doesn't know you, your feelings, personality, habits etc... She / he isn't in love with you yet.
If you tell her / him at the beginning that you work in porn, that person may decide that she / he doesn't want to know you or start a relationship.
If after a few weeks she sees that you are a wonderful person and is in love with you, you can explain hat you're not exacltly making mainstream web design. At that point she will understand and tolerate it, because she loves you.

Perhaps, I could be more cpecific but I don't have time to make a longet thread now, but I hope you do see my point.

I think if it was someone I wanted to have a relationship with, I'd want to know how they felt right away. What if I fall in love with them and we start a relationship and I find out later they are VIOLENTLY adverse to what I do, and can't possibly reconcile themselves with the idea? I am one of those firm believers in having accept me for me. I would be devistated if my job (which is part of my life) ended my hopes as far as that's concerned.

For some people though, it might work.
