Only 10% of the drinking population are physically addicted to alcohol and this is because of their physiological makeup...their bodies do not process alcohol as a normal body does. I am not one of those.

i agree i really enjoyed the documentary. I am interested in reading and seeing his other works. The numbers are very scary (the US related gun crimes in relation to other large advanced countries).

I do not have a drinking problem...I drink intentionally...to take my mind off of pain. I have a pain problem. I prefer not to get hooked on Vicodin (which I have a standing prescription for) or morphine (which I have patches)...at this point...as that will come later...since my condition will continue to become worse.

Typical alcoholic rambling.

Justify it all you want. It doesnt change the fact you are a drunk.

The irony of an addict calling stoners a problem is ignorant.

Go numb your pain with your alcohol.

Alcoholics like you always end up the way you are now. You got hurt at work and you used that to your advantage to do what you want, DRINK EVERYDAY, well your goal is accompished. If you say you have such a high tolerance, how does it numb the pain? Surely your medication could do better? Face it you are an alcoholic.

Drunk, alone, watching the car chases on the news, didnt you start a thread about a car chase last night?

How long have you been drinking your pain away?

Your body would probably appreciate vicodin over alcohol. Low doses of opiates are alot better for you than recreational doses of alcohol.

During my 12 years of service...I seldom even had a beer...though I did get drunk on a few occasions. I was injured in '91 and was released from the service in '92. I began to drink probably in '93...to take my mind off of pain. Alcohol does not numb the pain...it helps to some extent to be able to take my mind off of pain. I do not want to take Vicodin or use Morphine unless the pain becomes unbearable which it occasionally does. Those drugs ARE addictive and if I start using them now on a daily basis they will begin to lose their effect and I will have to take more and more in higher and higher dosages. There will be time for that in the future as my condition is going to worsen with time.

I owe you nothing including an explanation about anything that I say or do...so :321GFY

I heard the same thing at the bar I used to go to... It's not ok for me to judge somebody else, becase some people just have it real bad... My friend Steve got a simple case of mono... he took some medication that basically weakened his bloodflow -- he went to work because his doctor said it was OK -- and both his legs snapped -- the guy had to get his legs chopped off and he has two steel hips, but now he is older and his hips need to be replaced and he's in a lot of pain all the time... Realistically, going into that kind of surgery is very frightening, especially when you're almost 60 and entering the last phase of your life... especially if you're very poor and have no family that really gives a shit... so when I see somebody like this turning to alcohol to numb the pain I can't really blame the guy... but I don't think alcohol is really the solution to pain problems -- it just seems to delay your problems. I think when it gets this bad you need to turn to God...

The problem with you attacking Fletch is that you have zero credibility, and Fletch has rather a lot.

So it's a very uneven fight you can't hope to win.

There is not any solution to my pain problem...it is either alcohol to take my mind off of pain to some extent...or take drugs to relieve the pain...and at this point as long as I can self medicate with alcohol and bear the pain...this is what I choose to do...rather than to start taking drugs to relieve the pain...as this can come later. If I begin to use the drugs now...as time passes their effectiveness will be diminished...and I want to postpone that as long as I can...because my condition will worsen with time...and I will have a greater need to use them. None the less it is my decision and mine alone...I do not answer to anyone other than myself. If some prefer to believe that I am addicted to alcohol...who am I to dispell their delusion. I choose to drink...and really do not care if I am addicted, or not addicted. BTW I have asked God to help me out...but I assume the answer was NO. Or who knows...maybe the answer was...have another cold one my son. I am popping my first cold one for the day :drinkup...of course I had my usual Bloody Mary for breakfast around 6:00 AM.

You may refer to me as a gun freak for a few reasons:

1) I consider gun ownership a 'human rights' issue as the ability to feed, protect, shelter and clothe oneself and family should be left to the individual. When the government starts issuing me personal family security team I'll hand over my guns (naaa)...

2) This country (US) was founded by freaks with guns, the majority of the globe is not inhabited by gun freaks such as myself or our founding fathers and I'm sure there is enough room there for people that don't like this environment ;)

3) Guns and big trucks are a great way to compensate for having a small penis (not refering to myself, but feel free to apply it that way if it makes you smile)

;-)

5 Latvia 6.22
6 USA 5.64

The US homicide rate is about twice that of the 8th country.

Here are some "similar" countries.

Canada 1.76
UK 1.61

homicides total/100k firearm/100k
US 5.7 3.7
UK 1.4 0.11 (england/wales)

fireearm rate ~36x higher..

Once you take the guns out of the statistics the homicide rates look a lot more similar

non-firearm homicides rates/100k
United States 1.98
Finland 2.38
Portugal 1.70
Israel 1.60
Italy 0.59
Scotland 2.05
Canada 1.40
Australia 1.42
Singapore 1.64
South Korea 1.58
New Zealand 1.30

As I said before. Moore's point was that GUN homicides in the US are much higher than the rest of the world.
