Software-patents in europe
Does anyone here have any info regarding this and if so
what do you think about the current situation about Acacias European patent. On September 24th, 2003 the European Parliament will decide about the legalisation and adoption of so-called "software-patents" in Europe. Software Patents are already used by large companies- ACACIA - in other countries, like the US, to put competitors out of business. This can lead to the termination of many software projects such as MRTG, at least within Europe. As I understand it - today Acacaias patent is not really legal in europe according to the current softwarepatent rules. However if we change this tomorrow, maybe it is then. Any info appreciated |
