This Congressman is a genius

...not. Represenative Billy Tauzin (R) from Louisiana is on C-Span as I am typing this. He was just talking about a energy crisis in the country. He said that your home PC is the greatest consumer of electricity in your home other than your refrigerator. He went on to say that the internet consumes 8% of all electricity output in the country...which he stated is one of the primary single uses of electricity.

My home is all electric...listed below in priority order are the primary users of electricity.

1. Summer Time...Air Conditioner

2. Winter Time...Furnace

3. Stove

4. Dryer

5. Hot Water Heater

6. Washer

7. Refrigerator

8. Micellaneous Appliances...TV's...Stereos...Microwave...Coffee Maker...DVD player's...etc.

9. PC

Since he made the stupid statement that your home PC is the primary user of electricity other than your refrigerator...I assume that he is also wrong about the internet consuming 8% of electricity...and being one of the primary uses of electricity.

Maybe a recall...for stupidity is in order in the State of Louisiana.

Yes but if you think here in my house I got 4 machines running 24/24 .

At my offices there is at least 20 if not more with all the servers and bullshit .

So one pc might not take that much electricity but combine them together.

Sorry, your wrong. An average PC has a 350-Watt power supply and runs for 6 hours a day (i have 5 computers that run 24/7. Then add the montior and all the other little goodies (printer, cabel modems and other shit). The computer should be 2nd on that list unless you have a electric water heater and electric heat....why would your furnace use a lot of power? My power bill went up 125% when I added all my computers and left them on all the time.

How often do you use your washer, your dryer, your stove? Tops an hour each a day.

That depends on if you are on well water being run by electric or not...

I am so washing etc etc will always be more than just 4 or 5 computers running..

Doubt that the PC is #2 on my list but I would definitely save a few bucks if every now and then I actually turned it off instead of always leaving it on.

But I can't sleep if I dont hear it humming next me

The humming next to me is the only reason why turn my PC off before I go to sleep...

My home is all electric...as I stated in my post. The electric furance is close to $300.00 per month in the winter. The washer is used twice per day and the dryer is used twice per day minimum. The hot water heater is on 24/7 and is a major user of electricity. The stove is used daily.

Most of the light bulbs in my home are 150 Watts and the outside lights are even more. So in my home the light bulbs alone use more electricity than the PC does.

I just went tp PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric) website.

http://www.pge.com/index.shtml

They have a calculator to estimate the cost of the use of different appliances. I calulated the use of a PC 24/7 for 30 days...a color monitor 24/7 for 30 days...and an ink jet printer 24/7...for 30 days. Total cost $17.98 per month.

Lighting...$50.40 an estimate for me...using their calulator.

Dryer...$24.00

Washer...$49.20

Kitchen...$42.74

Air Conditioner...$239.85

Hot Water Heater...$50.66

The only thing I had wrong is the PC is not on the bottom of the list...it is second from the bottom...as the Refrigerator is at the bottom.

PC...$17.98

Refrigerator...$12.74

But even then the PC may still be last on the list as I calculated the ink jet printer has printing 24/7 for 30 days.

What voltage is the battery? Does it have a rechargeable battery? Two hours certainly is not much and I am surprised to learn this.

I think you guys missed what he really was saying.

the government dosen't want you to have a pc or access to the internet because you may just exchange ideas and find out what your government is really up to.

government don't like boards like this.

and be sure to burn all the books.

they will tell you what to think.

as long as I can pay the bill who cares how much a pc or the internet burns?
