Any experience with ScriptLance?

I've got a somewhat non-nominal coding project for bid on there.. I've receied about 30 bids so far, and they're all really low.. I was expecting $2k-$3k, judging from what I thought indian/russian programmers charge..

The highest bid was $1000 .. It seems to me that almost ALL of the people bidding on me have only reviews for web design, tgps, etc... none of them seem to have any substantial project work behind them..

The project in itself is a copy of the functionality of a rather popular community site, with certain functionality.. .It's nothing too complex, but the quotes seem too good to be true and I have a feeling what I'll get in the end is a php site that looks like the site but has no functionality..

Anybody have any thoughts, or know of any good php developers who do good work for decent prices, and you feel could handle non-trivial web app work?

My experience with scriptlance has been ALL bad. Lost a few grand and months of wasted time. In my case the programmers all seem to be keen to get your money, once you pay they put your project to the bottom of their pile and their back bidding peanuts on new projects. I even had one guy hack into my account and give himself a high rating, even tho he never completed my project. It's funny now I look back but at the time it wasn't I can assure you!

My advice would be NOT to hire anyone from scriptlance. If your project is important hire someone locally so that you can keep an eye on what they are actually doing!

Again this is my experience other webmasters may have had better luck, but I personally I won't be going back there ever again.

Have a good one!

Gee, thanks for the feedback.. that's kind of what I was worried about ..

Unfortunately, I don't have the budget to hire locally or I'd much rather do that.. When a local programmer wants $50 an hour, and I'm funding this out of my consulting business I get screwed.. I'll probably end up taking the time and writing it myself :/

never used scriptlance.com but i used elance.com and got buttraped 3 times in a row. if you want i can ask some reliable programmers if they can take on a job ... email me the details at mb at 219inc dot com

on these bidding sites, it is my experience that they promise the moon, then farm it down to a 12 year old student and just put up with your complaining till you are worn out. I will NEVER personally use a service like those again...

We're currently using a guy from scriptlance to write some software for us. He is in India, and his emails read like a thesaurus. It's always a riot to see what he's writing.

Something like, "I am expediciously seeking the driver file which will unequivically interface the modules. Should you have any interrogatory interjections or similarly natured facuality inquisitions please interactively inquire. I am hoping that this project will come to an ultimate completion within the week, as the functionality is required in promptness."

Man this guy is funny. I still don't know if he's any good and we've had him for a couple weeks.

Go to your local university or college with mysql/PHP classes & post a job on the board.

You can get someone to do it for probably $10 an hour easy.

It might take them twice as long to complete, since they will be learning along the way, but you'll wind up with a low priced local programmer to do stuff for you.

That's actually a great idea. The best response yet. Hrm.. At this point I'm pretty sure I can afford 2 20/hour a week Slav... err.. Interns..

I don't have the time to write the site myself.. and an experienced developer could easily architect it.. but I do have the time to manage a programmer or two and provide a little bit of mentoring in terms of secure software design & optimizations..
