It shouldnt if the refund went through. You should email your customer to know that you have refunded as well.

definitely... i've only seen this happen twice in 4 years though, never was sure if it was the customer just being an outright thief or simply unfortunate timing.

the refund had been granted from processor due to an email complaint, *but* the customer had already requested a CB from his bank that showed up a day or two later... so, refunded charge for $29.95, then paid an additional $29.95 out of pocket (not sure who got the extra $29.95 to this day!)...

i remember being pretty peeved looking at that customer record 2 years ago... reason for cancel = Other, refunded on xx.xx.xxxx, and then CB on xx.xx.xxxx. like being fucking pickpocketed..

The answer is no, if you credit back the client and make them aware of the time it takes to show up on their statement, and they dont charge back, its a credit back, which is NOT a chargeback

even if u make them aware of it the possibility is for them to still do a CB...

so the answer is yes, both can happen with one transaction that is what i was asking...

obviously if u told member they are refunded its very unlikely they woudl still contact visa etc

It will still count as a chargeback even with proof that it was a refund. You get the chargeback amount back but it still goes toward your percentage

Unfortunately it is possible for you to issue a credit and the consumer to still charge back. It doesn't happen often but you're pretty much screwed when it does.

A similar situation occurred to me early 2002. A loyal member contacted me, asking to end his membership and a refund for the current month since his computer was fried by lightining.

His having been with me for several months, I quickly complied within 12 hours. Little did I know that he had also contacted IBILL customer support. They having hired the lowest-wage possible employees, that simple request ended up being a complete set of charebacks for 6-months.

Needless to say, I left IBILL. With Verotel, for the past 10 months, I have not had one single chargeback.

Hmmm, this happens all the time.

The client calls their credit card company, gets the chargeback process started and the merchant has the funds withdrawn. But that takes a while to show up on a statement...

Meanwhile, the client emails and asks the merchant for a refund, the merchant, being a good business refunds the charge (or several monthly charges) in an attempt to avoid a CB.

Essentially, you end up paying the member to use your services. Fun, isnt it?
