My girl has an uncle being shipped out for a complete year, it was his last active month.

And I have a 21 year old cousin thats been there for a while as well, most likely will remain for awhile longer or be shipped elsewhere.

Both obviously not allowed to say exactly where they are or are going, but its clear they arent in mexico hahah

Depends on where you are, and why are you are in the service. I come from a Navy home -- you get it or you don't. Believe it or not, some, and I would dare say most of the soldiers that are over there, are there because they want to be. It is their job, it is what they want to do with their lives, they actually love it. I have great respect for these men. The ones bitching and whining about it are the ones that joined for eductation money, to run away from their problems, or because they just couldn't do anything else. There is great honor in the first type of soldier I mentioned, and I will always support these men.

what about the ones bitching that they only have 3 liters of water rationed for a whole fucking day?

seems like halliburton can't deliver the goods, they can only cash the checks.

"Letters published in Stars and Stripes and e-mail published on the Web site of Col. David Hackworth (a decorated veteran and Pentagon critic) describe shortages of water. One writer reported that in his unit, "each soldier is limited to two 1.5-liter bottles a day," and that inadequate water rations were leading to "heat casualties." An American soldier died of heat stroke on Saturday; are poor supply and living conditions one reason why U.S. troops in Iraq are suffering such a high rate of noncombat deaths?"

I am so confused. Bush told me the Iraqi people wanted us there, that it would be like the liberation of France. Loving Iraqi people dancing in the streets, Iraqi women rushing out to wash the feet of the battle weary liberators. I saw the statue come down, I still have tears in my eyes from the site of Iraqi people being set free from the clutches of that evil dictator. Why wont they just let us occupy their nation? I thought they wanted us there.

Amen. I'm an Airforce bratt and grew up all over the world. In Belgium my mother's office was bombed back in the 80's and we spent 2 1/2 years thereafter. When we moved to Germany there were two terrorist attempts against the base we lived on and stayed there for another 2 1/2 years. This is only five years of my life in foreign countries, not just one.

Americans are always under attack because of our beliefs. Just because our people are in Iraq just galvinizes the fact that we are hated and in danger.

I've even been jumped in bars in Japan by New Zealanders, Arabs, and more just because they found out that I'm an American.

I've known Americans that travel under the guise of being 'Canadian' so that they don't recieve similar 'hospitality.' I've never needed to hide because I'm proud of who I am.

If I had joined the armed services I would do my job and my duties without complaint like my father did all 27 years he served while our family was in danger and in so called 'friendly' countries.

Just my

no, americans are always under attack because of the actions of their government.

that's a critical distinction that should be made.

You mean proactively promoting freedom? Yes, but freedom is a belief that Americans share. I can't help the fact that most Americas strive to win and excell where others just want the status quo.

if that's a euphemism for killing people and taking their shit, or killing elected leaders and replacing them with dictators, or dropping nuclear bombs on them after the war is over, or any of the other bullshit the US does, then yes, that's exactly what i mean.

i know you're educated colin. you're fooling nobody ;)

by all indications the japanese military was defeated prior to bombing hiroshima and nagasaki.

there have been several books discussing why truman felt compelled to use the nuclear weapons as a signal to the russians that the US was going to assert itself in Europe after the war.

that really had to suck for the innocent civilians in those cities, huh?

Defeat is when you sign on the dotted line. In July 1945, Japan was issued an ultimatum to surrender unconditionally. They didn't On August 6 Hiroshima was bombed. If they had already been defeated, why did they not recognize it themselves?

Why is bombing Nagasaki and Hiroshima less humane than fire-bombing Tokyo (which was being done anyway)?

I think that's an excellent point about Truman and Russia. Just guessing but I'd bet the bombs would have been dropped anyway. I would have ordered it.

That's the whole history of World War II. Nagasaki and Hiroshima don't even scratch the surface of civilians killed in the bombing of cities during the war.

"...innocent civilians"...the Japanese War Machine could not have waged war without those "innocent civilians"...in total/unconditional war there are not any "innocent civilians". In addition those "innocent civilians" were being armed and trained to kill the "evil Americans" when they invaded the Island of Japan.

Study the history of war and you will learn that "innocent civilians" were almost always targeted...in the wars/conflicts through out history.

I know that being in far away god forsaken country sucks but its the life they chose. If they dont like it, all they can do is call thier recruiter and bitch then hop on the plane to Iraq. I knew the risks when I signed up, hopefully they understood as well. Becuase its too late to change your mind once you sign.

Besides why bitch none of you on this board are going. Believe it or not I know guys who rather be shot at then listen to people bitch about how bad life is in the US while drinking thier fucking designer coffee at StarBucks.

WTF
According to US law the President of the United States can only deploy The US Marines without congressional approval for 90 days. And every member of congress except one approved the use of military troops in Iraq. And mugged who you fucking idiot, Iraq's own government cleaned out the fucking banks.

So what were those indications? Was it the sucide bombers? The countless civilian and military Japanese lives lost at Okinawa because thier leader told them to fight to the death? Was it the increased fortifications, the standing orders to fight even if they lose contact with HQ or the generals that were planning a take over if thier leader surrendered to the Allies and then order the people to fight to the death? Even Japanese historians admit to this. Hell even higher echleon staff and officers who are alive today say the same fucking thing.
Do me a favor and stfu.

Thanks Mike.

I saw it on a Star Trek episode one of my pals wrote. In 'Klingon Hell' they have a dude named 'Fek'lar' who looks like Chewbacca from Star Wars on crack. It's the Klingon's version of Satan.

It's where the 'dishonored dead' go or some such thing.

Basically it means a place where all bullshit stops before it starts.

Can you imagine having to mandatorily serve ONE FUCKING YEAR in Iraq and MAYBE get rotated out????

They're sitting ducks to terrorists where we're seeing a guy whacked like every other day.

This bites old crippled mangy dog's ass on a hot Sunday afternoon in Alabama.

ONE year in that hotter-than-death valley-fulla angry blown up people desert???

At least in 'Nam it rained!
Anybody stupid enough to enlist in the military has no right to complain.

Most americans on this board applauded when U.S. troops mugged the Iraq people. Now it's time to pay for this crime. Have fun in sunny Iraq!
Another irony is that the "glorification" of the Admin Idiot should now draw *any* criticism. Yep... what you sow you will reap.

And every member of congress except one approved the use of military troops in Iraq. And mugged who you fucking idiot, Iraq's own government cleaned out the fucking banks.
Yes, we know the US Congress approved the Iraq fiasco and the one in Afghanistan (which is left well out of "news", but is another disaster - US is not even able to contol that either so it is easier to play it down).

If you think for one moment, the removal of some funds from Iraq banks is the problem - you have a lot of catch up on!

Yeah, - good to have a lying Admin that led many up a garden path!
