That's EXACTLY why they're doing it. They seem to be under the misleading impression that EVERYONE in this biz is a friggin' millionaire. It is true that a lot of money has been made but the VAST MAJORITY of adult webmasters wouldn't be able to support themselves just from their sites. A lot of webmasters don'tr make the $1500.00 in a year.

Acacia have made an ambit claim based on their belief they own all the patents necessary to say they own the process of sending video over the net.

They have not yet proved their claim, some people have signed licence agreements with Acacia however to do so is only to make the business decision that settling is easier than fighting.

Acacia do not own all the patents necessary to say they have complete ownership of the process of making video available on the net, they have a collection of patents that have undetermined value as no test has been made of their claims.

If you settle with Acacia, do so on the basis that (1) you are simply doing it as an initially low cost way to set the issue aside (2) that if the patents are invalidated or if it is proven that their collection of patents does not give them ownership of the process of streaming that any agreement you make is void.

If you have no feeds on your site, just whip up a letter and inform them of this, and refer to the guy's statement, that is a matter of public record, about webmaster affiliates NOT being licensed. He also said that it is ILLEGAL to charge both the paysite and a webmaster affiliate for the same feed. Your sponsor/s have probably already been contacted.

If they then still demand that you pay, turn that information over to IMPA as it will be a blatent contradiction in the statements made by an Acacia representative.

And.. if they are trying to charge you and your sponsor, they are breaking the law.. as stated in their own words.
