Cable Vs DSL: Which Is Best?

My cable connection sucks, upload speeds especially. So I've been asking around about DSL and people are telling me it sucks too, maybe worse than cable.

So tell me which one in your area is better and why.

I had cable in NY which I felt was decent and now have dsl in Vegas-I only care about downloading and to me the dsl is not quick enough-I know I can get a t-1 for 500$ a month 1025k speed but that's alot of $ to spend

Cable is faster one dowloads, but slower on uploads. The nice thing about DSL is that it tends to be a better balance between the two. Also, with DSL it doesn't matter as much whether people in your area are using a lot of bandwidth at the time.

I have a friend that has cable. Downloads are faster. But DSL is fast enough. He has more downtime or congestion also.

I'd stick with DSL.

DSL modems sometimes hang though and you have to hit the Reset Connection button.

They're both good if the provider correctly maintains their service. It just depends on who services your area and the prices they charge.

cable is faster unless congested at certain times of the day or too many users.

Cable all the way. I LOVE my Comcast.net cable internet. It's always up (except once for a few hours for an upgrade, the only time in the almost one year we've been with them that it's been down), it's blazing fast, and the uploads are really fast, too.

ADSL all the way. Business Class ADSL.

I've have both Cable and ADSL.. it's very rare that the cable modem downloads faster than my adsl. With my adsl, i max out at 440KB/sec.

With Cable I typically get 300-400KB/sec. Uploads suck on Cable (30KB/sec typically).

Adsl uploads almost hit 70KB no matter what my neighbours are doing.

ADSL all the way!

Definately matters where you live...

I have had good luck with Cable connection in Tampa, and DSL in New Orleans....

Thought past week both were out, but were hardware issues that got fixed quickly.

You are talking business DSL vs Standard Cable, my 5mb dsl business line I had was much faster but it was $199 a month and cable is just $40 and plenty fast.
Uploads are 30-40 vs 250+ d/l's.

Reliabilty seems to be the same, I never had problems with dsl and don't with cable either.
