Anyone Using Satellite High Speed Internet?
I'm staying in an area where regular DSL/cable is not available. I have heard that Bell Expressvu offers a high speed internet solution. Does anyone use this service or something similar? Can anyone recommend another high speed provider that would allow me to visit GFY at the level I am accustomed to? 28.8 connection is starting to kill me here!

I used a satellite connection, not sure how different it is to the one you're looking at, cos I'm based out of Australia - but I had it for about a year, it was good, but now I'm on ADSL which is far better.
The thing with satellite is that the connection is weather dependent, so if it's raining / cloudy / storm, it won't work, or won't work very well at best. Also, lag time is.. noticably more than ADSL, so if u type in google.com it will take a second to load, the satellite I found was more useful for downlading large files rather having quick connections to webpages satellite is a good stepup from dialup, though now that I'm on ADSL I couldn't go back Hope this helps

DirecWay is the biggest piece of crap we've ever used. I'd MUCH rather use dialup. When we moved last year we got DirecWay because the cable company where we moved to said that they were a few months away from having cable internet. Well, it sucked. I was ALOT slower than they had promised it would be, ESPECIALLY the upload speed which was not even CLOSE to what they had promised. We cancelled the service and they charged my credit card for the early termination fee. I called them up and asked them to remove the early termination fee AND to refund the charges for the dish and the installation because I was blatantly LIED to about the speed and they refused. I called two more times after that, asking to speak to supervisors and they still refused. So I had no choice but to do a chargeback. My CC company called the company and verified that they refused to refund my money and they issued the chargeback.
Don't bother. It's not much faster than dialup for download, it's SLOWER that dialup for upload and it goes down for every little rain shower and wind gust. |

By the way, the cable company got their cable internet running just a week after we cancelled DirecWay and we were on of their very first customers!
We've since moved to a bigger city and now we have 1.2 Mb download. I love Comcast.net! |

There's no DSL / Cable where I am living now. Been on dial up for a few months, it sucks. I looked at DirecWay but it doesn't sound much better than my dialup connection, and a lot more expensive. Another thing to look into are ISP's offering broadband through point-to-point radio links. It is usually targetted towards businesses and more expensive than dsl/cable but could be a solution if you do a lot of work online!
