It looks like Acacia Research Group is about to become one of the richest media companies on the planet. According to a story by Charles Farrar of AVNOnline.com, one of the Internet's larger adult website producers recently agreed to license Acacia's controversial Digital Media Transmission Technology (DMT). For those that don't know, Acacia claims patents on just about every form of streaming broadcast on the Internet, satellite and cable. Terms and royalty agreements between Acacia and CE Cash are undisclosed but will likely "mean substantial revenue for Acacia" and sets a tide-turning precedent for the rest of the adult online industry. Acacia has already licensed DMT to Virgin Radio and the LodgeNet video-on-demand hotel network. Funny how the Acacia news page mentions nothing about the deal.
...I tried to dumb it down for the mainstream slashdot masses but no dice. Fuck it, i gotta clean it up and resubmit.... I guess the mainstream translation of affiliate sponsor is "website producer"...thats the unclear.

why would you want to advertise that CE settled with them?
I don't think it helps the fight against them to advertise that people are settling |

To advertise does not necessarily mean to announce a sale, or spam, but to notify, make people aware, is also advertising. So news is always advertising. |

With people like Mr Popup running to slashdot with it as "news", they're just going to pickup more steam with their BS scare campaign. |

"Running" Those are some poorly chosen words. Virgin Radio and Lodge-Net have already licensed the technology and I dont think they were "scared" into anything. Whether I disagree or agree with Acacia's patent claims is irrelevant. The purpose of reporting the news is to inform people so they can make their own independent decision. You've already come to your conclusion and it may be right or it may be wrong... but dont ever presume you can tell me what to write or what NOT to write.

Not exactly objective, is it?
"tide-turning precedent" How is this a tide turning precedent? Explain.

I'm more outraged about the fact that the Acacia site mentions nothing about the deal which is obviously going to be worth some $$$$.
Seems like more of the same of this. Big business continuing to reap profits off of the little guys yet hiding behind giant closed corporate doors and big nasty Non-disclosure agreements....

It is part of the scare campaign. Essentially if these guys did it, you had better do it too. |
