fucked up sleep patterns

sure, it's been discussed before. and i've been happy staying up all night for many years. my entire adult life i've always cycled through sleep patterns. basically add an hour to the time i go to bed and wake up every 24 hours (from the day previous).

but when i want to actually get on a static schedule for whatever reason, i simply can't.

damn

Join the club bro. Actually, I think that every North American on the board at this time is like that as well.

Now, you must excuse me as I try to reverse my schedule and try to sleep. Wish me luck.

melatonin

seriously...get the sublingual the shit you drop under your tongue.
take it about 11pm at night when your body would normally start producing melatonin, and in about 15 minutes you'll be asleep.

You might be up by 5 am, but do that for a couple of weeks and you'll have your cycles back.

alot of people use melatonin to help adjust to jet lag etc when travelling.

any health food store, or vitamin section at your local drug store.

i used to be a taco bell manager, did 7 years with the bastards.

anyway my first year with them I had to work from 6pm to 4 am 4 nights a week with 3 days off.

before it was all over with i was unable to go to sleep until about 11 am the next morning and get up around 5pm.

when i got my own store, I had to move to days and I knew it would almost be impossible to do it as quickly as i needed to.

within 2 weeks my sleep schedule was back to normal.

I did Nitro2Go for a while...I was up to taking 10 tablets in the matter of 2 minutes so I would stay up! You're only suppose to take 2 in a 24 hr period!

+1 or +2 hours every day.

I'm going to try the honey trick right now & listen to a boring book-on-cd thing

That was working for awhile.

I just woke up this afternoon though so its still early for me to go to sleep. We'll see.

i'm thinking this is part of the problem. not that i'd ever want a 9-5 job - fuck that.

one thing i find, is if i'm out at the cabin - i always wake up early. it's the only place where i always feel sleepy at night, and wake up early.

weird.

Not weird at all...what has happened is you have blurred the line between work and home. at home you don't feel like you can really relax.

sure you try like we all do, but what's going on in the back of your head?

stats, gfy, eros. *in no particular order*

but at the cabin, it's just time to fucking chill. you probably burn a lot of energy snowboarding or whatever it is you do up there.

not weird at all you're more relaxed there.

My problem is my mind. I have so much creative energy I can't stop thinking about new ideas. It drives me nuts sometimes. I say ok enough go to sleep to myself. I get into bed close my eyes and kaboom an idea will pop into my head and I get up again.

Re: Melatonin

Information about reported side effects do not have to be listed on the product's packaging. Yet worsened fatigue and depression, constriction of the arteries to the heart (which could increase the risk of heart attack), and possible effects on fertility have been reported.

But then again... if people don't have sleeping disorders, they're out of business.

no, no. i have two places currently, one in a boring city, the other in Banff (where i currently am). it's Banff where i snowboard and hike - but i have the same problem whether i'm here or in the lame city.

i'm certainly happier in Banff, but it has no real effect on my sleeping patterns (other than i will FORCE myself to get up early when it's going to be a powder day). the cabin is a place i get to go out to maybe 5-6 days a year. but it's true that it's the only place where i don't have any internet access. 5-6 days out of the year of total isolation. hmm...

I've tried melatonin and it didn't help worth a shit. I have a relative who says it worked for her, though. I think a lot of times there's nothing you can do about it; it's just your body's natural homeostasis and you're stuck with it. I've had insomnia my whole life. I can remember all the way back in grammar school, lying awake in bed till 3 or 4 in the am. My parents finally bought me a TV and put it in my room and let my watch it all night, as long as I stayed in bed. When I was in grad school I could stay up all night and study, go to class and work all day, and then go out that night and stay up until daylight. My roommate always thought I was on something. My ex-husband used to go to bed a 9:00 every night. I was usually still up when he got up to go to the gym and work.

I've been trying to get on halfway normal sleep schedule for the last few months but I can't. I just lie in bed and stare at the ceiling, then start thinking about all the work I could be doing instead, so I get up and turn the computer on. I wish I could break myself of it.

did you try increasing the dosage?

were you taking the pill form or the liquid?

I've had different experiences with both...the liquid always works the best for me.

My problem is simply peeling myself off of my computer - once I hit my bed I am asleep in 5 mins.

It has gotten harder to sleep for long periods of time tho - in the morning hours sometimes when you are half asleep it's easy to have biz pop in my head and prevent you from falling asleep again.

Perhaps because most of us sit and work on our pc's and don't actually say anything outloud for hours - just think, type, click etc. our minds are so constantly active figuring this out, strategizing, etc that it is harder to have peace of mind. Perhaps meditation would help to quiet the mind.

If you really want to force yourself to sleep, just go to CVS or a drug store and grab some SimplySleep.. take a pill, and in 30min, you will be ready to pass out.. I used to take it a couple years ago, works real well..

Sleep? No worries. We'll all get plenty of it when we're dead!

I bet if you ask that relative if it makes her tired within a couple hours or so she'll say it does

I've been trying to get on halfway normal sleep schedule for the last few months but I can't. I just lie in bed and stare at the ceiling, then start thinking about all the work I could be doing instead, so I get up and turn the computer on. I wish I could break myself of it.

We should get married... well, without the whole "official" marriage, lliving together, or any sort of mutual compromising of anything part.

I've tried both. Neither one even made a dent. My doctor has actually offered to prescribe me something strong enough to do the job, but I don't want to go that route. I'd rather be sleep deprived than drugged up and groggy, or even worse- hooked on something. I've just kind of resigned myself to living the vampire life. What will REALLY suck is if I have to start working a regular job again. I don't know how I'll ever force myself into bed at a decent hour.

i've done the exact same thing (resign myself to it). it's just that there are times when i'd like to have a normal sleep cycle.

starting a regular job could never work for me, ever...

Yeah, I didn't do so well with the M word the first time around. Maybe my weird sleep habits had something to do with it. Or him fucking some chick at the gym. Whichever.

Now I always say that next time I'm gonna be smart and just marry a gay guy. They're always the best looking, treat you the nicest, are the most fun to be with, and are always well dressed. It's hard to find a straight guy like that, anymore.

Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to to get in on this back in the day. I sat around like an idiot making free sites for people. I had to wait until the Great Porn Depression to jump on board. Depending on how things turn out with the VISA mess, I may be double dosing on melatonin while I'm sending out resumes.

We're perfect for each other - I don't go to the gym.

Straight guys that are super good looking, always treat women nicely, are always fun to be with, and worry if their asses look big in their jeans are most assuredly gay.

I'm afraid I'm disqualified.

Too bad. We have so much in common...
and just when I was starting to feel a connection there too.
