If someone asks how to start a business which directly competes, would you help?

Lets say someone basically was asking you all the questions and wanted the contacts to basically start the same business you're running and compete directly with you, would you help them?

Someone basically tried to get me to explain everything to them and even asked for my contacts as to who would allow them to use the content on a reselling/leasing basis.

I thought about it for a while and came to the conclusion that the guy was an idiot for even attempting to get the information out of me as to how it would all work.

The worst part was how sneaky they were about it, like they knew it was wrong and i wouldnt help them but still tried to get the information out of me by asking not so direct questions to answer the questions i would never answer if asked directly..

I just found it pretty interesting how low some of the people on this board can be.

Not to mention some clowns who i was supposed to partner with then decided against having me as a partner and stole all my ideas for the affiliate site.

You know who you are.. pretty cheap/low/scummy

Use paperwork, have a lawyer you will use, and then get a cut of what they make. Then sure help them out.

Thats what you get when you trust people with high post counts who seem to be legit and have a decent rep on the board.

I'm not going to answer your question, you might be my competition. Why should I help you?

I think thats bullshit... what if someone who has been in this biz for years... has a good rap and does not post on GFY. You cant go by that, word of mouth is still the best way.

Sounds like the person you are describing might be a little shady. Anyone with years in the business would have a high post count at GFY. If he or she doesn't, you have to wonder what they're hiding.

thanks Mr.Fiction

it's the first thing i ask

I have developed a trust-scale based on # at gfy

10.000+ i will trust you even my ass (equinox is left out on this)
6.000-9.999 great trust, most probably nothing bad will ever occur
3.000-5.999 noticable trust, we can do business
1.000-2.999 i have started to noticing your existance, but I won't do business with you
500-999 there is a hope
100-499 you leave my ignore list, but do not hope for anything more
1-99 you are in my ignore list
0 you are dead, you don't exist

I have been in this biz now for more then 4 years
and I do help a lot of newbees.
-How to start up
-how to generate hit
and so on

But everybody has to find there own way
And there is no point for me in telling anybody
how to "copy-and-paste" my work.

And
To all of you who use signatures with refercode.
It is plain fucking stupid.
(did you ever make money on it ? )
Do you know what an over exposed sponsor is ?
All you do is branding the sponsor

So if you dont run you own program
Save the refer code for some who is asking for it

notjoe,

Really good post. I was going to post something similar at one time, but never really found the words for it.

You shouldn't help them unless you see the favor coming back around in the future. Or, you could help them a little....Keep your enemies close, but don't give away your bread and butter. Make them find their own contacts. If they're any good, they will be able to find contacts themselves.

Again, GREAT POST amidst the fog

heh, i'd be more willing to trust someone who didn't post on gfy, a lot of 'my dick is bigger than yours' bullshit and other retarded crap goes on, tho there are some informative posts as well.

as for helping ppl out, the only time i would is if they were a good friends i knew in person who needed some money, i tried to show a couple friends how to start out and make money in this business but both failed, i set up the sites and everything but they didn't keep it up, expected to make money from doing nothing.

Maybe they just needed a better teacher ? It's not hard to make a dollar in this business.
