Do you charge more for the rebill on your trial than you do on your regular subscription? I have added on a few bucks, to encourage people to take the normal recurring membership.

Here's my setup...

Trial: $6.95 rebilling at $23.95
Regular: $23.95 rebilling at $19.95
(I also have two months non-rebilling at $39.95, and six months non-rebilling for $99.95.)

i dont offer trial memberships anymore. they were such a waste for me.

how long is your trial membership?

Here's something really interesting...

Years ago I charged a flat rate. Then trials became popular so I did a 3 day trial. My subscribers started playing a game of joining trials and then canceling. I saw this happening every update. There were some that went in, downloaded a bunch of stuff and cancel for a few months, then come back.

I ended the trial and people still joined. I offered a loyalty discount after the first month; 29.95 first signup then 24.95 each month after.

It didn?t matter for a while?people still joined. Signups slowed down so I started doing 2.95 for a three day pass, then 29.95 full membership and 24.95 for loyalty discount. For now this is working. You have to always try new things.

You can offer both.

I wish the billing companies had a script to offer a one-time free trial that at least monitored the useage of a credit card or address- to be able to allow one trial per customer. That would be great.

try a limited trial instead. if they want the most recent update make them rebill less the trial cost. don't give them everything with the trial. give them a bit and also show them everything else that they get if they rebill monthly.

DV: Duh! Wow, that's really a great idea. I can't believe I didn't think of it. I guess I could run a separate sub domain with it's own htacess/password file and billing.

I suggested the "one trial only" option to CCBill a long time ago. My rep liked the idea, and said he would pass it on, but I've never seen anything. It really would be useful.

Another thing to try with your trial. Nina suggested this one to me originally... Don't offer it as a standard price, but only on an exit from your signup form.
