Wrong, if you stopped supporting Israel it would change, in time. But then you have to think what your politicians will do without the money they get from Israels backers.

The post below is in response to directfiesta.

Charly made a statement of fact...so I assume that he has researched the matter. His implication is that our Politicians would suffer great loss of campaign funding if it were not for the backers of Israel. Going under the assumtion that he researched this mattter (and did not pull it out of his ass) I would assume that he can list the names of at least some politicians that received donations from the backers of Israel...the amount received and the name of the donor.

I on the other hand have not researched who or who has not recieved donations from the backers of Israel and do not intend to research the matter. The last polls that I saw...the majority of Americans support the right of Israel to exist and Israel is just as important to Christians as it is to Jews.

FYI I am satisfied that the backers of Israel are not the driving force behind campaign funding for any politician.
Continued in next post.

This is from the link provided by Charly. And the figures are from a Pro Israel PAC and are career totals.

Quote:
TOTAL for 1999-2000 Election Cycle $2,044,606
TOTAL 1978-2000 Funds to Congressional Candidates $34,607,182
TOTAL No. of Recipient Candidates, 1978-2000 1,732

Related figures:
Total US aid to Israel since 1948:
According to the US government: $82 Billion
According to WRMEA's calculations: $94 Billion

Key: The "Career Total" column represents the total amount of Pro-Israel PAC money received from January 1, 1978 through December 31, 2001.

Considering that several hundred million was spent in the last Presidential election alone...I will repeat..."I am satisfied that the backers of Israel are not the driving force behind campaign funding for any politician".

Explain to me why I owe an apology.

Oh, geez. I see all the same people that were predicting the bloodiest war of the century, that tens of thousands of US soldiers would die in urban combat in Fortess Baghdad, that Saddam had something up his sleeve and had learned something from the last war, that the US was heading for another Vietnam, that the US was lying about it's military progress, that the US media was conspiring to present a false view of the success of the military in the early campaign and who chose "quagmire" as the word of the month are back. Once again you are here to say "you just don't get it" and once again you are wrong.

The US' Middle East policy? You mean the US pressuring Israel, France, and Britain to sign a cease-fire with Egypt in the Suez Canal war? You mean initiating the Camp David accords that resulted in Begin and Sadat sitting down and initiating a number of historic events that resulted in a peace between Egypt and Israel ever since? You mean backing Afghanistan against the Soviets? You mean selling weapons to the Saudis? Selling weapons to the Kuwaitis? Selling weapons to the Egyptians? Defending the Kuwaitis and organizing a war where Syria, the Saudis, and Egyptians sent troops to liberate Kuwait? You mean offering to sell weapons to Middle East countries only to have them turn their backs on the US and buy Soviet weapons instead? When those same Soviet weapons and tactics were found to be utterly inferior to US training and tactics in the various Arab/Israeli wars the countries that lost blamed the US instead of asking what they themselves could have done. You mean pushing Israel to participate in new peace talks?

Can't believe you guys buy into that Nasser/Soviet/bin Laden propaganda.

You'd think with all that practice, a few of those towel heads would make it into baseball.

So if a bunch of foreigners came and took over the country where you and your family had lived for centuries you would just stick your arse in the air and provide the lube?

In the Second World War they were called "The Resistance" and the Nazis dealt with them in a very brutal fashion. Any hint of resistance they would send in the tanks and soldiers.

Spot the parallel?

You have to see it from the other side as well, if you are going to come up with a coherent debate.

No you just asked me to list five and I did more than that. So you admit US politicians are taking money from supporters of another country.

All we disagree about is the effectiveness of all this money. I argue they give this money because it is effective.

You argue they give this money and it has no effect. Kind of charity.

What did you have to see a lawyer for, been caught again???

I am not from the United States, but healthcare in the US is probably the best in the world. It is not the most efficient, but if you are covered by insurance you won't get better healthcare anywhere else on average.
I guess you have not tried blue shield lately.. hehehe

No, it won't. It didn't stop with the first World War (the war to end all wars, right?) , the second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnamese War, the Iran/Iraq war, the Seven Days War, any of the Arab/Israeli Wars, any of thousands of civil wars, Palestinian uprisings, Afghan/Soviet War, Afghan/US War, the Soviet occupation of Baltic states, Idi Amin, Kashmir, Nanking, Falklands. God, there are thousands. There are probably about 40 armed conflicts and civil wars going on right now.

For that matter it didn't stop with the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, the American Civil War, the Franco-Prussian War, the War of 1812, the Boer War. It didn't stop with Genghis Kahn, Cromwell, Julius Caesar, Darius, Mohammed and the other Caliphs, or Pope Urban II. Nor did it stop with any number of Babylonian, Macedonian, Egyptian, Hebrew, Assyrian, Chinese, Mayan, or Aztec Kings.

This is the way the world is. Arm thyself!

I have never denied that politicians take donations to campaign funds from citizens of the USA that are pro Israel...as the majority of Americans are pro Israel...so I have nothing to admit to.

I have not made an arguement about effectiveness, one way or the other...you have the wrong person.

I said that "I am satisfied that the backers of Israel are not the driving force behind campaign funding for any politician."

I proved this to be the case by the very link you provided.

My business is not any of your business...but if you feel the need to know I saw the attorney that was retained to represent my youngest brother since he was run over last Thursday. My oldest brother could not be present as he had to work today and my brother that was injured is not mobile so the responsibilty fell on me. The attorney has taken the case and put the wheels in motion.

I look forward to the day when people will think for themselves and not live by rules and truths set down by religious leaders.

I saw a deranged guy walking down the steet with explosives strapped to his waist,

I was gonna call the cops but after reading this thread, I thought of the sins of many generations of ancestors...

It's probably my fault, I thought to myself

I just smiled and waved at the man, thinking somewhere deep down he was just a misguided nice guy at heart

Ah.. the thread goes on!

There sure is one massive load of "nationalism" floating about!
How about we *actually* (that means do it!) consider each others opinions - there are good points on boths sides!!

Overall, there is one serious lack of communication and it ain't limited to this board! Ya can blame the US, France, UK, Russia or Iceland - it don't matter a damn in the end. Meet the people from any of those countries and ya will find they are just the same as you.

It is also no secret that the US would have 100% support from countries (the opportunity for this to happen has occurred .. think three times now).. for actions had the Admin simpley "gave" very little. But sadly, this was not to be.... so the crap will continue. We now have the absurd spoilt brat behaviour with a "leader" who don't wish to take phone calls from other world leaders - pathetic!

All this alledged nation and race hating is bullshit from totally ignoranct imbeciles. Contrary to some expressions here.. there ain't no "shit countries" on this planet - there may be some you would not elect to live in, but they ain't shit. And, that includes France for the benefit of "Freedom Fries" lovers - that is just laughed at in France.

I only met two people in my life that some would use the word "hate" (and sure as hell they were genuinely evil - not exactly "common crooks" - they are serving time now for their actions!) - but I don't hate em - just a waste of a life!

OK as for the "thing" in the Whitehouse.. I don't hate the guy, he knows what he is doing (least I hope so!) and he will pay the price in the end. I only feel sorry for people in the US who supported and continue to support him and will also pay the price of the "thing's" ignorant, arrogant decisions. Let's say I just despise him, cos he had many chances since taking office and blew the lot.

Get a grip folks.. surely we would not be attacking each other in any face to face like this?

Peace out!!

Which countries and situations in particular are you talking about, Webby?

A little know fact from the third world

did you know for instance, that it's bad manners to eat with your left hand...

why you ask...?

well there is no TP so the standard practice is to wipe/clean your ass with your left hand...

ahh....if only they bought toilet paper instead of plastic explosives, I'd consider shaking their hands

I'm pleased ya enjoyed that! But is may seem alien to ya to see this "get along" and the "above clap trap" however "getting along" has fuck all to do with "above clap trap". It will take several years to let the "clap trap" cool and I for one have won't be refraining for the "clap trap". If ya don't like it - go fuck yourself and your alledged "President" as well and enjoy the experience!

It's not over yet..

Hang on!.. The asshole in the Whitehouse may claim that was his prime achievement since he came to office - cos there is nuthing else to claim success on!

I can see Mr Modesty (grinning Rummy) announcing this achievement from the deck of an aircraft carrier and coy George accepting the "honor"

What are you talking about?!

I've never won a DVD player or an X-box for that matter with any of my posts... so I think it's about time. This is a great thread.

Post on people!

Dude US is a big place with lots of people. You shouldn't make these kind of generalizations.

I've been trying VERY hard for a pretty long while now trying to wipe this idea aside, but somehow it just gets thrust up front time and time again...

Oh hell.. looks like all that gushing "patriotism" and flag waving in support of a bananna republic is waning!

I was rooting for Joe Sixpack for a least get a DVD!

No defence for an ailing over rated empire with chicken brains as management and more WMD than any country it whines about ??

Is there a medical term for people that are fixated on the United States, it's power, it's wealth, and it's standing in the world? Anyone have a copy of DSM-IV around?

Oh, and Webby. What are the countries and situations in which the US would have "100% support' in exchange for "giving" a little?
