I know what it's like to do work for someone and not get paid for it, so I can imagine that it royally sucks balls to pay for something and not get it done.

If EB was unprofessional in this, then so was jellohead by not keeping his/her/its employer notified of what was going on. that's also good business on the freelancer's part. Keep your contractor notified if things are behind schedule, work cannot be completed, something needs clarification, etc. So what if you wentout and got a job, congrats, but you still have a job to finish for this person as well. You can't just take the money and run.

I still have a great deal of respect for EscortBiz. He paid me and I did the work he needed (plus a bit more, but that was my bad, so he got it for free). I could see you doing this, with all the reason to do it if she never did any work for you and it was her first job from you and she did this but that wasnt the case.

Whether you like me more or like me less is really up to you, but what is fair is fair and i just think that jellohead kind of got the shitty end of the stick for no real good reason.

He didn't give her a deadline or a time frame to work in. Both of them have agreed on this. She wasn't behind schedule, and she completed all the work. From what I've gathered in this thread, she did 3 FPAs for him, and he paid he without a problem. Then, on the 20th, he asked her for 5 banners. She did 3 of them the same day and then finished the other two between the 20th and yesterday.

EscortBiz is acting as if she had ignored him for several days or weeks. His attempt to contact her amounted to 2 ICQ messages over the span of 3 days. She didn't answer them because she wasn't there to answer them. So he posted a thread on here looking for her. Obviously, she's not a regualr here. She reg'd in April and has all of 10 posts.

The whole time, she was in contact with his business partner, who was aware of her situation and her other obligations. If his partner doesn't communicate with him properly, that's not the designer's fault. And then after she had sent the banners to him and completed her obligations to him, he gets on ICQ and starts giving her shit. At some point in the conversation, she mentions that she did the work and gave him a good deal. He decides to take this to mean "I gave you a good deal, so I have the right to ignore you" and starts to rip into her even harder, going so far as to post this thread.

Guess what, EscortBiz? You've done nothing but lose business for yourself and drum up a shit load of business for jellohead. Were those your intentions?

Like I said, I've had nothing but respect for him as well, and I don't do business with him either. He's always come across as a good, professional person in the past. But this whole thread reeks of unprofessionalism. He jumped on someone and trashed their reputation before they had the chance to earn one.

My problem isn't so much what he did, but what he isn't doing. Sure, there was a misunderstanding. Shit happens. But he refuses to admit there was a misunderstanding. He's attempting to justify his actions. And he refuses to apologize to her either. It's one thing for him not to do any more business with her, but it's another for him to encourage others not to as well.

Not only does jellohead have ICQ, but she has an email address and a phone number as well. His failure to obtain those contacts, or his failure to communicate with her through those contacts also reeks of unprofessionalism.

And then, when I voice my opinion, he pins it on the fact that I'm Canadian. What the fuck does my nationality have to do with anything? And does he not realize that you and LadyMischief are also Canadian?

I think EscortBiz' reaction may have been a bit hard a little fast on the ICQ, but I can understand where he is coming from:

1) He pays someone for work, he expects it done.
2) He gives his word on paying, you give your word on delivering.
3) He tries to contact you, you make yourself easily available until your project is done - or advise beforehand if it won't be that way. (in case there were changes he wanted to make before you finish the work)
4) People give little importance to keeping their word, customer satisfaction and support in this business.

I say he was hard a little too fast because she didn't seem to understand what he was getting at until he got pissed.

Anyhow, that's why I prefer to call the people without advising before I send anyone money for anything - just to see how available people are when they aren't expecting business.
