DirectNIC, would you recommend them?

Hi,

I'm looking to consolidate a lot of my domains that are with 3 registrars to a single registrar (.com, .ca, .ws, .nu, etc...). It appears DirectNIC can offer what I need and I especially like the ability to lock domains to avoid unauthorized transfers so I'm just looking to see if anyone has had bad experiences with them. Looking for move about 50+ domains. Price isn't an issue, more of reliability/trust.

Thanks
WG

DirectNic has had problems in the past with thier databases. I lost a few domains over it and moved everything to godaddy.

Thats only my expierience and I'm sure they fixed the database problem since then.

Any reason why you would suggest enom resellers over DirectNIC? Price isn't an issue for me, more of a security issue to ensure domains aren't hijacked.

You just said it then .. if your with them direct your ok. But through resellers the resellers have control over your domain even if the domain is registered to you directly.

Mostly just personal experience. They offer excellent domain portfolio management, great security, auto-renewal, 'protected' mode prevents against transfers. They offer complete DNS management. It's extremely convenenient, redundant and fast updates. I've been able to switch servers before and have it update a few minutes later to the new server all from within registrars control.

I'd go with DirectNic, yes. It's nice to have an open line to the owners if something goes wrong, and at least two of them post on this board on occasion.

I've also had them help out folks that weren't even registered thru them before when situations arose.

Good guys.

Same here. I have used DirectNIC for like 3 years as well. No problems. A scare once with the security stuff, but it's set to high now and secure as hell.

I use 3 but, DirecNIC gets nearly all of my business. Been with them for years. Not one problem. Best control panel I've seen. You can buy in bulk with deep discounts. All sorts of great features if you have lots of domains.

My exact reason for changing, they're giving me the run-around for trying to change a DNS and their password authentication blows. Time to change registrars and cut my yearly fees 67%

SRSPlus wouldn't do anything because of fraud.

Pro Tech Hosting huh? Closest domain to prohosters.com you could get?

They are great, but still a bit expensive compared to many wholesale registrars.

Maybe they even have lower prices but I just haven't asked.

DirectNic is the best and I've used several others before moving everything to them. They're not the least expensive, but if you buy using the Quantity discounts, you can save $$$. And as KK pointed out, having the owners in the adult biz AND the fact that they AREN'T resellers, is just icing on the cake!

Well if you deal with an OpenSRS reseller, the service is only as good as the reseller.

However, if you have a lot of domains (say 100+) there's no reason to deal with a reseller. Get your own OpenSRS account and buy your domains that way. It takes a little paperwork, and
a one time $95 dollar fee but its well worth it. We've been using
then for about 2-3 years with over 500 domains and never had
a problem.

DirectNic I use them for some domains I really don't use just had' em parked, they have free hosting so I made up some thumbs pages submitted to search engines and just forgot about them, I will be moving my main domains over to them, but not for the free hosting, I like' em a lot.
