DirectNIC, would you recommend them?

Hi,

I'm looking to consolidate a lot of my domains that are with 3 registrars to a single registrar (.com, .ca, .ws, .nu, etc...). It appears DirectNIC can offer what I need and I especially like the ability to lock domains to avoid unauthorized transfers so I'm just looking to see if anyone has had bad experiences with them. Looking for move about 50+ domains. Price isn't an issue, more of reliability/trust.

Thanks
WG

OpenSRS

Nina 05-15-2003 08:41 PM

I use them and have always been happy.

ProTech 05-15-2003 08:42 PM

DirectNic has had problems in the past with thier databases. I lost a few domains over it and moved everything to godaddy.

Thats only my expierience and I'm sure they fixed the database problem since then.

MuleScrote 05-15-2003 08:42 PM

They've got my vote.... :thumbsup

Can't really say I've gone anywhere else, but why change a good thing.

The Other Steve 05-15-2003 08:44 PM

Others may have had problems but they have worked ok for us

Brujah 05-15-2003 08:44 PM

I'd recommend a good enom Reseller instead. Some offhand:

NameCheap
PowerPipe

Steve 05-15-2003 08:44 PM

I have used them for a while and I have had no complaints

if you do use them, make sure you have security set to HIGH

Ugh ... if I forwarded you the emails I got from Opensrs when prohosters tried to hijack my domains when I quit them you wouldn't be so happy with them.

Basically when you deal with Opensrs your almost always dealing with a reseller and Opensrs will not get involved when your reseller trys to hijack your domains.

And when you do deal with a reseller the reseller is actually the one who can control your domains.

Ludedude 05-15-2003 08:45 PM

Directnic is solid. No problems there and been with them for 2 years.

Lane 05-15-2003 08:47 PM

Yes

Any reason why you would suggest enom resellers over DirectNIC? Price isn't an issue for me, more of a security issue to ensure domains aren't hijacked.

You just said it then .. if your with them direct your ok. But through resellers the resellers have control over your domain even if the domain is registered to you directly.

Vegeta 05-15-2003 08:58 PM

Had the same problem like you protech......i lost some domains with directnic.......i changed to godaddy.....

Mostly just personal experience. They offer excellent domain portfolio management, great security, auto-renewal, 'protected' mode prevents against transfers. They offer complete DNS management. It's extremely convenenient, redundant and fast updates. I've been able to switch servers before and have it update a few minutes later to the new server all from within registrars control.

Kimmykim 05-15-2003 09:06 PM

I'd go with DirectNic, yes. It's nice to have an open line to the owners if something goes wrong, and at least two of them post on this board on occasion.

I've also had them help out folks that weren't even registered thru them before when situations arose.

Good guys.

austinth 05-15-2003 09:06 PM

I have used them for quite a while now and am very happy. There's cheaper places like GoDaddy but I still prefer Directnic.:2 cents:

WiredGuy 05-15-2003 09:13 PM

Brujah and KK, thanks. I think both your points just sold me.

Been with directnic for over 3 years. Charlesmanson.com is registered thru them and all kinds of kooks have tried to steal that domain but failed.
:thumbsup :thumbsup for Directnic from me!

Same here. I have used DirectNIC for like 3 years as well. No problems. A scare once with the security stuff, but it's set to high now and secure as hell.

Ludedude 05-15-2003 10:05 PM

Kooks and charlesmanson.com....who woulda thunk it :1orglaugh

drunkdollars 05-15-2003 11:12 PM

Directnic is the only one I would use.

Great features and AWESOME support.

The trouble ticket system over there moves about as fast as GFY. :)

IntenseCash 05-15-2003 11:18 PM

They are awesome, I would recommend them

XM 05-16-2003 12:42 AM

Another vote for Directnic from me :thumbsup

Save yourself money and go with namecheap.

Great support, price and features.

If money is no option then go with register.com.

okdesign 05-16-2003 02:38 AM

They are really good !!! :thumbsup

KRL 05-16-2003 02:50 AM

I use 3 but, DirecNIC gets nearly all of my business. Been with them for years. Not one problem. Best control panel I've seen. You can buy in bulk with deep discounts. All sorts of great features if you have lots of domains.

Living For Today 05-16-2003 02:54 AM

directnic is great. thats what i use.

Pointless 05-16-2003 02:57 AM

never used anything else

[Labret] 05-16-2003 03:00 AM

I use them, never had a problem.

I still remember the horrors of network solutions.

My exact reason for changing, they're giving me the run-around for trying to change a DNS and their password authentication blows. Time to change registrars and cut my yearly fees 67%

WG

maxjohan 05-16-2003 03:14 AM

I go with godaddy..

:thumbsup

BluMedia 05-16-2003 03:14 AM

I love them, I moved all our domains to them. I fucking hate network solutions. Don't go with the cheapest domain register. Go with Directnic

*** Pro Hosters never tried to hijack your domains, and it wasn't OpenSRS it's SRSPlus. I always find your posts so enlightening.

Basically when you deal with Opensrs your almost always dealing with a reseller and Opensrs will not get involved when your reseller trys to hijack your domains.

*** I suggest you don't listen to anyone who can't get thier facts straight, and know the right company he is talking about. Pro Hosters deals with SRSPlus. Didn't you used to work their Mark?

Noone tried to hijack your domains.
And when you do deal with a reseller the reseller is actually the one who can control your domains.

SRSPlus wouldn't do anything because of fraud.

Pro Tech Hosting huh? Closest domain to prohosters.com you could get?

Mr.Fiction 05-16-2003 05:43 PM

They are great, but still a bit expensive compared to many wholesale registrars.

Maybe they even have lower prices but I just haven't asked.

Peaches 05-16-2003 05:45 PM

DirectNic is the best and I've used several others before moving everything to them. They're not the least expensive, but if you buy using the Quantity discounts, you can save $$$. :) And as KK pointed out, having the owners in the adult biz AND the fact that they AREN'T resellers, is just icing on the cake! :thumbsup

Well if you deal with an OpenSRS reseller, the service is only as good as the reseller.

However, if you have a lot of domains (say 100+) there's no reason to deal with a reseller. Get your own OpenSRS account and buy your domains that way. It takes a little paperwork, and
a one time $95 dollar fee but its well worth it. We've been using
then for about 2-3 years with over 500 domains and never had
a problem.

DirectNic :thumbsup I use them for some domains I really don't use just had' em parked, they have free hosting so I made up some thumbs pages submitted to search engines and just forgot about them, I will be moving my main domains over to them, but not for the free hosting, I like' em a lot.

mrthumbs 05-16-2003 06:02 PM

i have over 7000 domains with them and no problems ever.

They custom build and added some features to
their application for me.

Directnic is the best :thumbsup

CashGordon 05-16-2003 06:05 PM

I didn't have problems with them since 3 years
